I won this dress on ebay [http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jigsaw-100-Silk-Green-Dress-Size-10-/251488221497?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=PQWjJca%252Bg94fdnST6xDKzdaov64%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc]] and thought I could wear it with a bolero cardigan, heels plus a clutch. But it is quite flimsy & I am worried that it looks a bit night dressy? Plus I am 46!!! But what do you think? I do love the colour and it is flattering on me. My other idea is this. [http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Smart-Day-Dresses/WH625/Womens-Olivia-Dress.html]] I would really value your opinions on both options as I'm not very confident! Am size 8-10 pear shaped.

Sorry xpost.

Twinklestein · 06/04/2014 11:07

Depending when it is the green dress might be a bit cold, even with a bolero. I really like it, but I think it might work better for evening or when it's really hot.

I like the Boden dress, I think it's more suitable and I'm not generally a Boden fan.

I'd want to stay away from any Aintree comparison, so I wouldn't go bare legged, wear skyscraper heels or a fascinator.

Windowbasket · 06/04/2014 11:20

Thanks, Twinkle. I agree - I'm not one for a fascinator. I would rather try and look understated, really. I do have a lovely navy leather clutch from Jigsaw that might be ok with the dress (the coral one is the one I like). Any ideas for footwear? I don't like my legs so do you think the old nude fishnet idea might work? And as for shoes - no idea!! Am a jeans girl at heart, you see ...

The coral is my favourite. There are quite a lot of coral shoes around so you might get lucky, I've just bought a pair of coral ballerinas.

Alternatively LKB do a pretty coral cardi, and then you could do nude shoes. I'd wear glossy nude tights, but that's me.

Eastpoint · 06/04/2014 11:32

I think the green would be too cold too. If the weather is a bit on the cool side a slip would be an extra layer with the coral dress too. I'm the same age & think wedges are good as you can walk on grass in them, if the car park is a long way away you'll be walking some distance plus you'll be on your feet a lot of the day. Sorry that's a rather incoherent sentence.

Windowbasket · 06/04/2014 12:48

Ooh - wedges! Glossy nude tights! Both sound great and thank you SO much for your help. I'm glad you think that the dress is ok Smile Might keep the green one anyway just because I love the colour, and it is quite old-style Jigsaw which I also like! Maybe on a warm summer evening with a little navy shrug …. here's hoping!

Twinklestein · 06/04/2014 12:50

On second thoughts no way would a coral cardi work, it won't be the same colour and the dress is quite bright. I think I'd go with a white cardi or jacket depending on the weather.

Windowbasket · 06/04/2014 12:59

Agree with the white. Re: shoes - these, do you think, or no?www.jigsaw-online.com/products/addi-court-shoe-8250

Ha ha - also just seen this www.jigsaw-online.com/products/tulip-print-v-neck-dress-8678 - another contender!

Not sure about the shoes, for £149 they look a bit Dolcis 1984

Zalando

Karen Millen

Windowbasket · 06/04/2014 13:34

And also very expensive! LOL re: Dolcis 1984 Grin. I actually think I might be veering towards the jigsaw tulip print now …. but I do like the Boden one, decisions, decisions!

If you're more of a jeans girl then I wouldn't go for shoes described as 'directional' as they'll probably just live in your wardrobe after the event.

When are you going racing? Is there a chance you could pick up some shoes in a sale? I went to Ascot a couple of years ago & picked up some shoes a week before hand, so much more satisfying than paying full price. I like the Jigsaw tulip dress & your navy clutch would be fine with it. How tall are you as it is quite long on the model for a knee length dress. Another advantage of the Boden dress is that it is much cheaper than the Jigsaw tulip. I saw these Boden navy wedge on the Boden site, they aren't directional at all but they look as if they would be comfortable for a long day out. Can you tell I am the same age as you & foot comfort is very important to me?

Windowbasket · 06/04/2014 14:05

Eastpoint, those shoes are nice. I have very narrow feet and struggle to keep courts on which is a worry! I normally need something with an ankle strap which is a pain! And yes, it is all getting very expensive. I think the problem is also that if I am going to end up spending £100 odd on a dress, then I'd like to be able to wear it afterwards so I want something multi-functional rather than too posh! I also quite liked this from Hobbs as it is quite plain and could be dressed up or down?www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0114-5893-9045L00&productvarid=0114-5893-9045L00-PASTEL%20BLUE%20NVY-18&refpage=new-arrivals&utm_source=linkshare&utm_medium=affiliate&siteID=0RpXOIXA500-oLcy6LZiIoE51ZJa_tMINw&EL_COUNTRY=GB&EL_CURR=GBP&EL_LANG=EN Ideally, I want 'less is more'!

Sorry, Eastpoint - it's Goodwood that I'm off to.

OP posts:
Eastpoint · 06/04/2014 23:14

Are you going to Glorious Goodwood or one of the earlier meets? Just thinking about sale shopping. I was surprised to see that M&S have hats in at the moment at their Westfield branch. So you're the same height as me but much slighter, hmm. The blue Hobbs dress doesn't shout out 'buy me' to me, but I'm not wearing it. I prefer the Boden at less £££. Can you order almost everything & then send it back? I saw a nice dress in Oasis, could you wear something like this oasis dress they describe it as coming to the knee. Asos does Oasis now I think & they are free delivery & returns. They have a 10% off code at the moment I think, MORE10

Windowbasket · 07/04/2014 07:57

It is ladies' day. Might order the boden one before it sells out and see what it's like on me. The Oasis one looks good too - thanks! Am guessing accessories are pretty important too.

The boden one has gone out of stock alert overnight! Am in a state of panic now!

That looks pretty. What colour cardigans do you have? It can be quite nippy up there. You could buy a statement necklace from somewhere like Accessorize to make it 'this year'. I bet you'll look lovely whatever you choose.
