Cross-body bag - perfect in every way. I want, but soooo overpriced....

Isn't it?

Saw it by chance in store yesterday. It is sooo clever. In the last image you can see that it has three compartments - two outside zipped ones, and an inner, security one with a magnet/press stud in which my wallet fits perfectly. Also, the adjustable strap comes off and turns it into a really lovely clutch (which I also need). The matt gold hardware is lovely and it is quite plain, except for a discreet logo, which I dont mind.

But it is 295 in store (and 310 online, which in itself has annoyed me)!

Anyone seen anything halfway similar? Even at 195 I could justify it....

Ewww no, it does nothing for me especially with the gold metal. Sorry Blush

fluffiphlox · 01/04/2014 15:18

Have you tried Knomo? They do a cross body town bag.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/04/2014 16:00

I like the look of this one

www.russellandbromley.co.uk/cross-body/zip-code/invt/704293

Love all the different colours too

Replies - yay!

DDTDQ - its a matt gold, rather than shiny but yes, although I have both in my wardrobe, I'm a gold girl I'm afraid!!

Re Knomo - nothing in brown or tan

Re Russell & Bromley - good spot, Billstickers. Have you seen it in person because the leather doesnt look great online...?

The strap doesn't look very long on that Gerard Darel bag. It's a bit frumpy for my liking I'm afraid - I'm sure you could get a better bag for far less.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/04/2014 16:29

Nope haven't seen in RL.

LaCerbiatta · 01/04/2014 16:36

I saw this one in real life. Looks rubbish on the website but it's lovely in brown. I actually stroke it for a few minutes.....

magso · 01/04/2014 16:42

It is lovely! I am looking for a replacement for my firetrap leather purse bag. Its such a useful size - effectively a purse on a cross body strap. I can wear it whilst having my hands free. But that's too dear for me. So I'll keep checking in!

thepurplepenguin · 01/04/2014 20:26

I love the one billstickers linked too, such lovely colours

thepurplepenguin · 01/04/2014 20:27

Pictish - I've tried the strap in RL and it's fully adjustable (unlike my current weekend bag which is too long on the shortest length of the strap). It's not the edgiest-looking of bags but it's clean-looking and love how functional it is. But no I wouldn't pay 300 quid for it....

Going to check out the R&B one in the flesh (like the suede too). Tugamummy's MD one I've seen before. It's really nice, but again would need to check out in the flesh

Marc Jacobs may be worth a look but they aren't generally multicompartment

pictish · 01/04/2014 21:22

OP take this the way it is intended.
For a frumpy bag, that one in your op is one of the better ones I've seen. Grin

Radley and the ilk make me want to die of the gransy mumsy.
I'm not ready for the 'classic' look. I don't think I ever will be.

I do think it's a neat little bag though - if you like that sort of thing. V dear though.
I'm supposed to be icing fairy cakes for school Easter disco right now, but I may just have to browse a few websites for a more cost effective alternative for you.

pictish · 01/04/2014 21:23

Ha ha - and there's nowt more mumsy than icing cakes for the school disco is there? Grin

dalek · 01/04/2014 21:24

Loving the one tugamommy linked to - might have to ask for it for my birthday!

pictish · 01/04/2014 21:31

fossil

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/04/2014 21:35

I've changed my mind about Radley since getting the Grosvenor, I'll not have a word said against itWink

But I agree with everything else you said Pictish!

sweetmelody · 01/04/2014 21:39

Living life on the edge, eh Pictish!

Did I sound defensive about 'my' bag?! Radley??

The cross body I use at the moment is very annoying (strap too long, bag itself just one big 'ole compartment that everything gets lost in) but it is indeed stylish and non-mumsy. Have I gone too far in craving practicality??

Get those cakes done and get linking!!

I think it is gorgeous!

I treated myself to this bag

Didn't pay full price though and The Bobi bags are really great and can be used as a clutch or a cross-body Smile

A good bag is an investment Wink

sweetmelody · 01/04/2014 22:12

Katester - why why did you do that??? That bag is stunning. Love everything about it. How much is 'not full price'?

Pictish - I snorted when I saw 'fossil'. I had a fossil bag once when they first came out and I was about 15 but, have to hand it to you, that is near-as-dammit the same bag (assuming the leather quality is up to scratch).

There are a couple of nice bags on that site...

Sweetmelody I have recently had my third dd who was nearly 11lbs when she arrived (gas and air only!). Felt like I deserved a treat and it had to be something that I could wear but that would fit me

KatesterNI · 01/04/2014 22:28

Oops posted too soon!

Has to fit me when the pregnancy pounds finally leave me. Smile

pictish · 01/04/2014 22:36

That's what I thought! Same bag on a practical level!

KatesterNI · 01/04/2014 22:43

I have never bought an expensive bag at full price and always wait until there is a sAle on somewhere like Matches, Liberty, Monnier Freres etc

Makes it a tiny tiny bit easier to justify Wink

Have you had a good look to see where it is stocked? You could keep an eye out for their next sale.....
