What face shapes suit a bob?

With all these nice choppy bobs coming in for autumn I am considering having one. I have had long hair forever, except when I was 14, but that was before GHD's and it was a huge, bouffant bob and I hated it.

Now thanks to GHD's I can have sleek, straight hair. Should I bob it? Also have a fringe and am thinking bob with fringe may look odd?

have a long bob (shoulder length) that would look nice with a fringe. avoid bobs if you have round faces i think otherwise it will look like a pudding bowl

Do they make you look older or younger?

they've always made me look younger but not in a good way haha!

I had a bob and the years dropped off as the hairdresser cut. It was amazing. I looked so much better, even before he started blow drying. My bob is very precise and sharp. the front is level with the corners of my mouth and the back goes up a week bit so it looks like a wedge shape. Its also incredibly easy to look after. 10 mins blow drying with a round brush and it looks like i stepped out of a salon.

sorry - OP asked about face shape.... I have a fairly long face i think. With a thin long nose, but pretty sharp cheek bones. God that makes me sound like the wicked queen in snow white

Quadrophenia · 18/08/2006 21:53

I have a round face and a sharp bob with fringe, love bobs with frings aslong as the fringe is very defined

Gobbledigook · 18/08/2006 21:54

My hair is straight and until yesterday was shoulder length. It's now a chin length bob and it's fabbo. No fringe though - side parting.

I've just washed it tonight and with my GHDs have done a pretty good job of getting it to curl under. I used to hate having a bob years ago as I could never get it to go under by blow drying but GHDs have changed my life

I think I definitely look younger and 'fresher' with a bob. Even dh really likes it and he usually prefers long hair. My face is longish so if my hair gets too long it just 'drags' it down iyswim. So a bob quite suits my face shape I think.

southeastastra · 18/08/2006 21:54

i'm jealous of your sharp bob the moon! my hair gets all kinky what colour is it?

themoon66 · 18/08/2006 21:56

That's right - long hair seems to drag a long face down. It emphasised my nose to mouth furrows.

I also have a fringe.. a spikey choppy one.

themoon66 · 18/08/2006 21:57

Southeast - my hair is naturally a dark auburn, but I put a bright scarlet red temp rinse on for nights out.

southeastastra · 18/08/2006 22:23

did i read on another thread that you are 5ft 8?

mosschops30 · 18/08/2006 22:28

i have an oval shaped face and very thin hair and recently cut it (a nicer version of posh spice but she cut hers after mine), and I love it, its a short, graduated choppy sort of bob. Go for it!!

BlueBeetle · 18/08/2006 22:30

I have a big fat face and a bob ! Suits me !

I'm 5'6" in case you wanted to know ?!!!!

themoon66 · 18/08/2006 22:35

Southeast - that would be the boot thread. Am 5ft 8in with 14 and half inch calves. LOL

CurrantBun · 22/08/2006 14:29

Excuse ignorance but what's a GHD?

I had a short crop but am currently attempting to grow my hair into a bob. Trouble is I have very, very fine hair and I think a bob just makes it sit even flatter to my head. At the moment it's at the messy, in-between length - not quite long enough to get into a bob - so I'm just tucking it behind my ears and looking despairingly at myself in the mirror each morning as I battle to style it!

southeastastra · 22/08/2006 14:38

overpriced hair straighteners (ghd - good hair day)! though people think they are worth the money, i've got ceramic ones but don't really use them.

foxy1 · 23/08/2006 22:38

If you have a long face then a fringe can shorten the length of your face. If you are not used to a fringe then have a soft wispy side sweeping fringe. They always say that if you have a hair cut above your jawline this will change the appearance of your face - below this it won't alter. I would go for a longer bob below jawline and then graduate it slightly at the back with a soft fringe. Let us know what you had done in the end. I fancy a change as well after seeing Victoria beckhams hair. I have dead straight long hair and fancy a long bob. It is good to have a change
