Just come back from hairdresser

And I'm crying Sad. Usual hairdresser away so had another (whom I do know) but the cut is just not the same. I asked for an un mumsy bob, and I got a mummy bob. Usually it's a messy choppy effort, cut in two parts, bit longer at the front than the back. It's just short and I don't know what to do. Do I wait till I calm down a bit and phone (and risk upsetting her) or do I just leave it and hope for the best?

Have a big event at the weekend and it won't grow by then. I look like shit anyway (it's not just my hair, my skin and face and body too and I desperately need some sleep) and I have to stand next to my ultra glam mate who has everything done on a monthly basis and looks fab but is still getting surgery

I'm just frumpy mum. I can't seem to get grip of myself. I don't have the time or money and I'm over tired and knackered and worn down by it all and want to eat cake Sad

Right:

  • is it the styling or the cut? COuld you style it out?
  • how brave are you feeling?! I have been back to a hairdresser & asked her to recut as she didn't so what I wanted - but it was somewhere I hadn't been before, and wasn't planning on going again. It was still the bravest thing I've ever done. But it did work...
  • what exactly did you ask for 'unmummsy' is a bit vague! Maybe photos needed if you do go back (prob of your own hair on an occasion when you did like it.

I have my hair in a bob as you describe. A few weeks ago my hairdresser cut it into a really mummsy, horrible bob. I was so upset as it was the final straw. I now looked a complete and utter frump.
After a miserable evening I decided to phone my hairdresser and explain how I felt. She was absolutely fine and recut it the next day. She said she would rather I phoned if I was unhappy, than put up with it or go elsewhere.

Might you be able to have it cut into a bit, to make it choppier/messier, even though that might mean losing even more length? Sometimes when you wash and dry it yourself it looks better too - I HATE the way every hairdresser in the world, ever, dries mine.

I feel your pain, btw. It's been a while since I've been there (as now I just have the same thing, every. Single. Time) but there's nothing quite like the anguish of a bad haircut. It WILL get better very quickly!

Can you go back and get the back cut in so the fronts longer? If it's a bog standard bob there should be enough hair.

I like mine graduated and am not happy if it's done any other way.

Do you think you may look at it differently when you have had a good sleep and not so tired,maybe you can then see a way through to styling it youself or will your usual hairdresser be back before the big night she can surely help you and don't compare against your friend you have surely got many fab qualities that don't need monthly touch ups.

Messy bobs seem to be popular then so should be standard? My usual hairdresser is away for a few weeks now, and the baptism is this weekend (Don't have nights out!).

The front doesn't look that even either, I'm sure it's longer on one side than the other because I have a natural side parting. She did chop into it a bit once she had finished because I had asked her.

Was supposed to be a bit of a treat as I've been feeling really low (have PND) and its just made everything worse. I think I may wait until the morning please give me a few hours sleep tonight DD and then put some spray or something through and look again.

I have to go to a school thing tomorrow too Shock and I'm running out of time to get everything ready for the weekend as it is without another trip to town!

Definitely call the salon and ask for (ideally a more experienced stylist) someone to recut/do something. Hating your hair is horrible and this has happened a couple of times to me (I have curly hair so it is different to cut than straight). I have always gone back to the salon and said it is not quite right. Once this lead to a total restyle (to a style I love, love, love and have had frequently now over the last 15 years). Another time just a bit of extra cutting into at the back transformed the cut from a frumpy mess to something much funkier.

Any salon would far, far rather you went back and were happy than were unhappy. They want you to be a walking advert for them.

Call them.

If you cannot squeeze it in before the weekend would some texturising matt wax stuff do the trick to mess it up a bit?

Call her back,any hairdresser worth her salt would rather you ring them than go elsewhere.

Have a google online of what you want it to look like.I always think its easier than explaining it.
Hope you sort it out.

Well I've been brave and called the salon. They are going to fit me in tomorrow for a consult. Not sure what can be done as it's pretty short - hoping they can just graduate it up the back a bit more (but without looking wedge like).

Poor thing, my hair will still look terrible -because it's on me, and my face is terrible too.

Smile and Nod Flowers. Wear a smile (even if it is fake at them moment due to the PND and people will see that anyway.

And don't forget, they will all be too worried about what they look like to be criticising you. Get yourself a new lipstick whilst in town too.

Back to say that the hairdresser was really nice and didn't mind at all (or at least pretended she didn't). She has cut out the corners of the bob so it's sort of graduated a bit up the back now. Bit of texture spray and it looks quite choppy. Much better than yesterday, and she said to pop back in once I've had a go at washing / drying it myself.

Still awaiting sleep though, feel truly shocking. Tried to pass dd to dh in the night but she wasn't having it Shock. Going to hit the cosmetic counters tomorrow to maybe get a new polish and mascara and some matchsticks. Still not decided what to wear - have wrap dresses but no shoes!

Well done for going back to the hairdresser. It sounds as though you're having a beastly time of it at the moment and it's always so much harder to be assertive when everything's shit.
Second the new lipstick suggestion. Also sounds as though you could do with a long bubble bath with a good book and a large glass of wine.

Aw, I feel for you. I had a bob cut WAY too short once ("Oh, it'll make you look SO much younger," hairdresser said Blush

I got through the crap phase by tipping my head upside down and using a ton of hairspray. It almost looked funky like that.
