Interview outfit help for someone who has no workwear/formal stuff!

I don't work in an office at the moment so don't have any suits/jackets. I have this dress (jersey wrap dress) and boots similar to these - any suggestions for what to wear with it? I am 5'1" and a 12, so go for petite ranges where possible.

It depends what the interview is for. If not for a senior role, then I think your dress is fine but I would wear it with smart shoes, not the boots, and with black tights but not too opaque. If you can't borrow a suitable jacket, then the smartest black or possibly dark grey cardigan you've got. Subtle jewellery and nails, and well groomed.

And good luck!

Yesish to the dress, as long as it's not an ultra-formal role, as Awkward says.

You'd have to have a jacket over it though- not a fan of cardigans for anything interviews. What's your budget?

No to the boots. Have you got any shoes?

TheScience · 22/03/2014 16:09

Not ultra formal or senior. Hmm... don't really have any smart shoes, don't wear heels really. I do have these ballet flats in black and cream and black.

I have a dark grey cardigan but no jackets. Budget of maybe £50?

Matalan have some really cheap work wear/suits. Good luck with the interview.

MerylStrop · 22/03/2014 16:14

What kind of working environment?
How old are you?
Dress is jersey so I would try to get/borrow jacket (simple but structured blazer?) to crisp up the whole thing. No to cardi in any circs. Have you got nice scarf/necklace to pull it all together?
My top interview tip is to wear groovy shoes. Helps people to remember you but not at the expense of paying attention to what you say. Cream and black ones could be ok.

bit over budget

Will look for more, ballet flats fine.

tethersend · 22/03/2014 16:24

AwkwardSquad · 22/03/2014 16:26

Fair enough re the cardigan! What about Next for a jacket? They have a sale on.
