A bit boring, but I need comfy shoes.

I am hyper mobile in my ankles and feet (various other joints too, but less dramatically). I am forever spraining or at least straining ligaments in my feet and I ave very painful feet or ankles.

I need comfy shoes, smart and casual. Some for work, others or mum time with my DS. Any ideas?

In order to not repeatedly turn my ankles I need to wear flat/ low heels with a wide ish base to the heel. So no stilettos or kitten heels or narrow based wedges.

Laced shoes are best for stability, also boots.

Also if you have narrow feet/ heels you need to make sure your feet don't move around, side to side, in shoes that are too wide.

Have you seen a podiatrist? They can prescribed you orthotics to give greater stability.

I've found brogues, Cuban heels, and mid wedges with ankle straps are good and ballet flats and any heel over 1 1/2 inches are bad.

In the summer I live in orthotic moulded footbed flip flops. (Not as bad or as ugly as they sound.)

Same here. I can only recommend casual/sporty ones as I'm still trying to get smart ones sorted. I have just bought these which I got for my daily walks but they're so flipping comfy I don't want to take them off:

For me the memory foam insoles combined with the bubbly soles are just heaven. They are supportive but soft everywhere so don't put too much pressure onto the top of my foot and sides of my ankle joints which are always painful.

An update to my post. Have just worn said Skechers in drizzle and damp and they're lethally slippy. So am retracting my recommendation on that basis. They are incredibly comfy but likely to end with a visit to A&E unless you wear them indoors or on dry days only.

I am currently wearing Fly London Chelsea type boots with thick socks. I also have a pair of laced shoes, I think they're called Dare, which again I wear with thick socks.

I have Toms espadrilles and may try a pair of their wedges this Summer.

I have fairly narrow feet (B width fitting) and find most shoes in High Street stores are a D fitting or above and my feet slop around and that causes the instability. I try really hard to get well fitting shoes now and do a lot of research and shop online.

The brand that fit me best, Trotters, are on the surface a bit granny-ish, but a lot are plain and simple, loafers and court shoes. The best bit about them for me is that they come in 1/2 sizes and the lasts they use mean the heel is narrower comparatively to the front of the shoe, giving a snug fit.

I can recommend Gabor for comfort and stability. I have 3 pairs and they are fab. Just bought these to wear with ankle skimming trousers and they are so comfortable. I've also got 2 nice but plain pairs of court shoes for work.

Skechers in dry weather.. I live in them..they are incredibly comfy ('on the go' loafers)

Fly boots are also amazingly comfy... but leak in the rain.

Day to day I live in 'Red or Dead' ankle boots...

I'm hypermobile too and on my feet all day. I have to have some arch support and these all do me nicely!
