These are the jeans beloved of TOp gear presenters and many many men. Shapeless and serve no realy purpose apart from to cover flesh.
They don't flatter a shapely bum or focus on a firm thigh, and are often worn sans belt

MEN - bin the dad jeans

It took a lot of persuading my dad when I was young that jeans shouldn't be ironed with a crease down the front and back (a la pressed trousers) - he was horrified!

MrsDavidBowie · 16/03/2014 19:55

Just photograph him from the waist down

TawdryTatou · 16/03/2014 20:02

DP is over 50 40, and definitely looks good in jeans. Was admiring his back view just this afternoon, actually.

I did have to take him in hand and coax him out of his 501s, though. Bless.

Emo76 · 16/03/2014 20:10

Could anyone link to non dad jeans in a 38 waist please? Think my DH dresses well but curious if there are any ideas for a gift!

SconeRhymesWithGone · 17/03/2014 02:08

President Obama on dad jeans incident

squoosh · 17/03/2014 02:24

Men in skinny jeans do nothing for me. I think I'd prefer some nice Farah slacks.

ds used to get his skinnies from new look fairy

Eastpoint · 17/03/2014 03:48

SnoringH wears dark navy straight leg Hugo Boss jeans. He's 50 and runs about 30 miles a week. Looks fine.

Mandy2003 · 17/03/2014 05:25

Two men at work wear the same style of Levis. On one they look like dad jeans, on the other they don't. Odd!

LordPalmerston · 17/03/2014 05:55

Ooh brilliant dad jeans eg in the fail thing today on Liz Hurley's new guy

Yep you only had to look at Dh's colleagues at the dc's Christmas party to see that these men, who are used to dressing in very sharp business wear are actually pretty rubbish at dressing casually - dh included!

Shimmyshimmy · 17/03/2014 07:16

Dh wears Real Straight by Gap, they are as close to trendy as he is willing to go. Agree that skinny jeans on men is not attractive unless they are very tall and very slim.

50ShadesOfMaybe · 17/03/2014 07:33

A lot of hate here for both men in Dad jeans and skinny jeans. What are the poor souls to do? Only a dark denim, straight cut for the rest of their life?

FWIW, DH wears skinny jeans and looks v. good in them. Grin

The kind of thing described by Fairylea is more common than we imagine. A few years ago I was throwing out some black skinnies that I'd bought post-preg and were now too big for me. DH said, these might fit me. Tried them on and they did look good on him. Still wears them. (Can't see him actually going in to a women's clothes shop and buying a pair, however.)

ginmakesitallok · 17/03/2014 08:02

Dp is 6ft2, with a 28inch waist and looks great in skinnies, he's 43

LordPalmerston · 17/03/2014 08:17

Like leggings skinny?

OP posts:
noddyholder · 17/03/2014 11:18

these are what dp wears

ggirl · 17/03/2014 15:48

slim fit chinos are what dh wears
he has wardrobe full of dad jeans from years ago
they may come back into fashion like 'mum jeans' have

noddyholder · 17/03/2014 16:00

My son and his mates wear dad jeans rolled up big belt loafers quiff

crazyspaniel · 17/03/2014 16:09

I am glad I am not a man. All trousers are hideously unflattering on me. At least I have the option to wear a dress.

I'm still recovering from last night's Top Gear and the sight of Clarkson in that jeans / hanging out white shirt / tie ensemble.

UriGeller · 17/03/2014 16:09

Oh god Its enough of a ball ache trying to find myself the perfect jeans. I really don't want to have to take charge of DP's wardrobe as well.

He spends 5 days a week in a suit, I think he's earned the right to look like a top gear presenter or whatever he likes at the weekend.

Its the grown men who dress like Cbeebies presenters that make me hurl.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 17/03/2014 16:14

There's no way my DP could wear any of the skinny jeans mentioned here. He has cyclists thigh's that make Chris Hoy's look a bit weedy Grin.

He was only saying the other day that all the jeans in the shops at the moment were too tight.

He wears knee length shorts unless there is snow on the ground anyway.

TyrannosaurusBex · 17/03/2014 16:29

DH is another who looks great dressed for work in Savile Row suits, but come the weekend goes for dad jeans and jumper or, in the summer, wears the kind of t-shirts that cost less than a sandwich.

He also buys his reading specs from chemist's shops and peers at me over them because he can't be bothered to take them off.

Sexy.

burnishedsilver · 17/03/2014 16:46

Bruce Springsteen can still rock a pair of jeans. I can't really imagine him in a nice pair of slacks!

toastedteacake · 17/03/2014 16:46

My DH is tall (6'4"), slim (but has broad shoulders), and long of leg. Does anyone know where to get men's jeans that will fit a 34" waist and 35 1/2" inside leg?

I know Boden go up to 36" inside leg, but they tend to be of the baggy 'dad jean' variety.

TIA

Shimmyshimmy · 17/03/2014 19:26

Gap do a 36inch leg.
