Most of us have one. The 'go to' dress. The dress that makes you feel beautiful. The dress you can glam up or down.

Mine is a simple stretchy Prada shift dress I found in TK Maxx! It was one of those 'I can't believe the label . . .oh God . . and it's my size . . . oh DEAR GOD . . .and it's AFFORDABLE' moments. It was £100. Fitted like a glove. I stood in the changing room whimpering at how well it looked. In the actual Prada shop, a very similar dress was £950.

Anyway, it's a dark burgandy, thick stretchy fabric, just touches the knees. A perfect shift. I've worn it to parties, dinners, and work meetings. It makes me walk taller and feel expensive. Anything I wear with it, looks automatically classier. As long as I don't put on a lot of weight I will have it forever and my daughter can have it when I'm an old lady (and not a minute before, are you listening DD?) Grin

What about your favorites?

This Whistles dress - Viper - in black is my very favourite dress. It's a beautifully light, fluid jersey. It is brilliantly styled at the shoulders, neckline, and waist so that it looks very structured and smart. The neckline gives it a lovely Old Hollywood or Evita-esque vibe, especially lovely against vibrant red lipstick. It came with a skinny black patent belt that cinches and finishes the dress beautifully. The faux-wrap effect makes the skirt sit perfectly. It skims at the most flattering places and clings where you want it to. It's just fabulous. I've worn it to dinners, parties, romantic nights out, a funeral, a job interview. It fits me like a glove.

The thing I love most, though, is that it was a gift from my lovely granny. Every time I'm in it, I feel as fabulous as she makes me feel!

Your dress story is great, OP!

Hyva what a lovely story. Proof also that fashion is cyclical, and that some styles transcend fashion anyway. Your pic inspired me. The dress in my pic is almost exactly the same. I wish I could say the same about the model . . . !

Mine is from BCBG Max Azria. It's black and beige, sleeveless, round neck, just above the knee. I think that 'day' dresses that you can both wear for work and glam up for a night out are fab.

Mine is a royal blue drapey but clingy slash neck mini dress from Zara, a Helmut Lang inspired number. It's just the perfect shade of blue to flatter my skintone, eyes and hair, and seems to fit me from size 8 to pregnant 16. It clings to the right bits and sweeps flatteringly over the dodgy bits. It's great with a statement necklace and heels for a night out, or flat sandals for pretty much anything daytime in the summer. Love it. It was about £15 iirc about 3 years ago.

I love this dress from Hobbs, it's really flattering. Brings me everywhere

I recently bought a new black dress with pearl trim that is more glitzy and think I will get great wear from it
