Anyone grown to love their curly hair?! I need your help to wean myself off my GHDs

I have naturally curly hair, but it is also thin, damaged and prone to frizz. It is currently between jaw and shoulder length.

I have gone 'silicone free' with my products but not really seen a difference. I think the main problem is that I straighten my hair every day and cannot live without my GHDs so my hair is in very bad condition.

I need to stop using the GHDs and find a style that I like that does not involve straightening. I love curly hair on other people, but for some reason I just don't like it on me, I never feel that I look good with curly hair and when I see pictures of myself with curly hair I cringe. To be honest my hair never looks nice as such, and even when I straighten it I just feel like its making the best of bad hair and at least it looks vaguely neat and tidy.

My current hairstyle is that I tend to run my GHDs over the front bits to tidy it up then just stick it back in a ponytail for work. I don't have much time in the mornings and I also cycle to work so there is no point in fancy hairstyles as I then have to wear a cycle helmet for 30 minutes each morning. I also tend to wash my hair the night before not in the mornings, so I need a hairstyle that would fit with this routine.

I need to learn to love my curls - has anyone else managed this?

Me! My hair sounds similar to yours OP. I stopped washing and straightening it everyday and it's now twice as thick (literally - my ponytails gone from scraggy and nonexistent rat tail to being a proper handful). And because it's thicker and heavier it's less frizzy and flyaway. My miracle product for getting it to look decent when it's not straight is Bumble and Bumble Hair Undressing texture creme. Takes a while to get used to using it but really gives my hair thickness and grip and makes it look 'done', especially if ypu blast the roots with the hairdryer for root lift. But the main thing is stop damaging it and wait for it to recover.

I keep my hair in a shoulder length bob and I put a side fringe in because the front of my hoar was in the worst condition. I now dry my hair with my hands and the hair dryer - using the brush makes it too fuzzy. I like the odd kink in it...sometimes I kick out the ends with the GHDs. I don't use silicone products...I don't use any products.
When I want it curly/wavy - I need to let it dry naturally and then wet a bit to calm down the fuzz and separate the curls and it's done.
