What height and shape are you? I am an 18 and 5ft9 and can't wear skater dresses, but look good (I hope) in tunics, and more drop waisted stuff. I do have a high waist though.

I tend to spend of my most time hiding my lovely baby gut.

I'm only 5ft 4. I like jersey dresses that aren't too fitted. I too have a mummy tummy.

I'm a size 18 too and have a couple of Pepperberry dresses that are very flattering.

HandragsNGladbags · 09/03/2014 15:56

I find thicker material more flattering like Laura Ashley, Phase Eight, Planet.

I have recently bought this, and found it so flattering i went out and bought the plain navy. I sew, and am currently having a go at copying the pattern because it's lovely on. I'm a 16 btw, with a big belly.

I get on well with Boden Maxi dresses. I usually go for plain ones and change my jewellery/shoes depending on the situation. They look good worn with cropped cardigans or those short front tie ones when it's cooler.

I have a lot of Boden and got something v nice from Monsoon recently.

Thank you all so much. I have some places to try now!
My past mistake has been buying cheap and then only wearing it a few times as it's faded/shrunk/become misshapen.
Have been looking at Boden but the cost puts me off!

I've been reading some plus size lady bloggers or following them on twitter.. They often blog about labels I never knew about & preview or show clothes from well known retailers & write about them.. Pink love & Taking shape are 2 that come to mind.. Retailers

HandragsNGladbags · 09/03/2014 19:56

Have a look at John Rocha and Julian MacDonald in Debenhams as well, they can have some really flattering stuff.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 10/03/2014 10:05

Evans do a dress in their scarlett and Jo range, powerfit I have one and its very flattering I am an 18 at the moment - thank you slimming world, getting smaller by the week.

polyhymnia · 10/03/2014 10:12

I try to avoid any specialist retailers eg Evans. My dresses are from Boden ( carefully chosen as their sizing varies and some of their patterns are garish).

polyhymnia · 10/03/2014 10:36

On cost of Boden, there's always a code to get 20% off around so it's not as bad as it looks. Also I do think you can't easily 'get away ' with very cheap fabrics if you're large, unfortunately. The hang of a garment is important.

tootsweets · 10/03/2014 15:58

That's the conclusion I've come too Poly.
Fed up with buying cheap and regretting it. I need to look smartish for work too.

I get SO MANY compliments on my Boden stuff. Once you know which cuts work for you, look on ebay too.

polyhymnia · 10/03/2014 18:20

Ditto. ( think we have some of the same Boden outfits, Northern)

tootsweets · 10/03/2014 20:24

Sorry to hijack OP but would someone mind linking to some of the Boden stuff that's flattering? I always feel as though I don't where to start on the website.
