Opaque tights to black tie do?

I'm old (44), short (5'2") and chunky (10 stone 5, eek) and am going to a party at the weekend. DH will be wearing a DJ as per the dress code. I have a choice of 2 dresses.
This one
similar to this but short sleeved, lace all over and V neck

My two problem areas are my legs (a bit on the chunky side) and my tummy (looks about 5 months gone (I'm not pregnant))

So either dress is going to need some suitable leg covering and I wondered whether opaque tights, heels and a short dress was a big no no? The first dress is great for covering my tummy, but is a bit on the short side for me and I feel a bit exposed. The other dress is flattering face on, but a nightmare from the side.

Damn you facebook! In the olden days I'd just get drunk and it'd all be fine, but the most recent pictures of me on facebook are AWFUL and that's what worries me about both dresses!!

If you are worried about your tummy I would avoid the second dress as it will be deeply unflattering. I think you have to be very slender to carry off a snug fit like that.

How a bout a prom style dress instead?

RosinaCopper · 05/03/2014 23:06

I don't have a prom style dress and don't really want to buy anything as a one off wear. And I have (as usual) left everything until the last minute, although I have booked to get my hair done on Saturday, so at least I'll feel okay from the hairline up!!

Wear number one with opaques. It's lovely. Get drunk anyway.

Crutchlow35 · 06/03/2014 07:21

I thought black tie was full length dresses?

I'd go with your first option but no to opaques. Get yourself a good pair of rude support tights. I don't think opaques will look right at all.

Black tie can be full length or cocktail dresses. I'm not sure about opaques with either dress. I would wear nude or sheer black.

Right, figleaves order is in for sheer black, and tan (can't face nude) 10/15 deniers.
And some control top opaques just in case I bottle it with the thin ones!

PS. I did smile at rude support tights Crutchlow. Do you mean Spanx with their weird crotch opening? Grin
