I am not much of a jewellery person - have a couple of simple things that i wear ALL THE TIME. Dh has just given me a silver locket on a chain - not the kind of thing I usually wear but he bought it because it has a romantic message on it awh bless

what on earth do I wear with it? It seems like something my gran would wear......

but do not wish to discourage Dh from buying me jewellery

Sounds lovely and very romantic! Wear it on a long chain with a plunging V-neck - would look particularly nice with a wrap dress or shirt dress. Or just a plain black v-neck t-shirt or a white shirt.

thank you merrily. i am worried about looking frumpy as I am....kind of....middle aged [whispers]

how do u get pictures small enough to fit in it? I've had one for ages but it's empty.

Wear it on a thin black velvet ribbon - not quite as tight as a choker. Look lovely with a low cut black top.

How romantic! The last thing DH bought me was a bumper pack of nappies, thats right!Bloody nappies.
And he presented them to me saying 'I've bought these for YOU to save YOU the hassle' What!?

You could buy a few charms or beads and thread them onto it to make it a bit more funky.

Blondilocks you can get software to shrink photographs and then take it to be printed at a photo store.

Awh bless him, I wear mine with a big chunky chain or on a black silk ribbon as suggested, love the idea of threading on charms too, may look into that myself! I haven't put photos in mine but locks of Dd's hair (something my mum did with hers and I've just carried on the tradition!)

AvaLou · 12/08/2006 12:57

I have a charm bracelet which I adore!
I buy something to thread onto it on special occasions, such as giving birth or holidays, so they all have a story!
Hopefully my daughter will want it as I plan to pass it to her.

thnak you - you are SO CLEVER - I hadnt worked out that its teh chain that is making it look odd. Its thin and too long. Will investigate chunkier chain or black ribbon. Sounds perfect as i wear lots of v necked tops, as recommended by the MN style police for those large of nork and short of neck

and yes, DH can be romantic somethimes. The locket is engraved with the words

Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

Ooh a nice bit of shakespeare (A sonnet thinks dh )

sansouci · 13/08/2006 22:18

You lucky thing! I always have to drop heavy hints. Wear it with pride.

KristinaM · 13/08/2006 22:40

indeed crunchie, you culture vulture, it is ...

SONNET 116

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

I knew it was shakespeare, dh knew the sonnet, and in fact someone read it at our wedding, so I should have known that!!
