Jeans - what is the measurement from crotch to waist for mid-risers?

I am buyig from ebay, I don't want ones that come above my navel or flash my builder's crack when I bend down. What measurement range should I be looking at? For size 10 jeans

And what brands are utterly out of the question in terms of trendiness?
