COOL TONE home hair dye & shampoo recommendations, please

i cover my grey (25% ish) with whatever hair dye in on offer at boots but im thinking i should probably try to be a bit kinder to my hair, so would appreciate recommendations (salon treatment not an option on my budget).

i am a dark, cool tone brunette & most brown dyes have a warm tone which results in a reddish orange tinge which doesnt look great againt my pale rosey complexion.

also, can anyone recommend a great shampoo & conditioner for coloured hair? im in my late 30s & have been dying my hair for almost 20 years- gulp. i would love to try to restore some softness or is that pie-in-the-sky?

You need to look for the ones that are called ash something or other. I use nice and easy light ash brown for that reason. Mine still goes a bit reddish so I also use aveda black malva shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo is fab and does help. The conditioner actually lays down a bit of colour. They are also designed to cool red tones.

Exactly what clouds chicken said above!

Aveda is lovely and I also find nice and easy doesn't seem as harsh as others and the light Ash is quite v true to colour. I also find that if I try to go very light brown then it seems redder.

Unfortunately I think Aveda costs what it costs. Cheaper in America if you happen to be planning a trip Grin

Was just coming on to say ash browns! And if you want to go reddish make sure it's a burgundy, not a warm chestnut.

Casting creme gloss in iced coco , iced truffle or iced chocolate. Depends how to dark your hair is. All three and cool tone dark browns.
