i have a 21st and a 30th birthday party to attend and then a christening.....money is tight so i can only afford a dress, but not shoes to go with it. my only going out shoes are black and plain.

the 21st party specifies 'posh frock' the 30th is themed around the colours of the Rubiks cube (don't ask!).....and i need something suitable for the christening. can one dress really do all this?
i haven't bought myself a dress for about 5 years so i am totally lost.

I'm sorry, Rubik's Cube ?????? - anyway!

the rubiks cube had red in it so how about a red dress. or green.

for the party you can then just have hideous cheapy accesories in yellow/red/blue/white/whatever and the shoes will be ok becuase the cube was black in between the coloured squares

now what kind of dress were you thinking? Will you want to show off arms/legs or not, how tall, any bad bits to hide, approx size etc.

then I am sure my seniors will be able to help you find a dress to do the whole lot!

oh yes and budget
I am sure you can find something that will do all 3 is my point

cosmicdancer · 09/08/2006 20:29

there was a dress in French Connection which had Rubic cube colours on a black background. I'm sure there was a link to it before but not on their website. I did see it in the store yesterday though. Will try to find.

French Connection Rainbow Dress

towards bottom of page.

SimonBolivarCusack · 09/08/2006 20:33

Ruby is right about getting a dress you love so you want to wear it

and the rubik's cube had loads of colurs in it so you're pretty safe

It seems to be quite in demand - you could probably sell it on Ebay afterwards and get your money back if you wanted to.

cosmicdancer · 09/08/2006 20:37

I think there are lots of more affordable dresses around - that one just stuck in my mind because of the Rubik cube colours.

you could get a really nice black dress and just accessorise. lots of red/yellow/green bangles and coloured belt for rubiks cube party. wear it as it is for the 21st and get a bright coloured clutch bag/corsage for the christening. buy a reasonably priced black dress and spend a little bit of cash on the other bits.

zoeuk1 · 09/08/2006 21:09

something like this is so versatile. and cheap (click on dresses and 4th one along, although there are a few there)

queenrollo · 10/08/2006 08:17

thankyou for the links....
i'm about 5ft 2, and petite with small boobs. i haven't been into my nearest town clothes shopping for ages, but apparently we have a Bay Trading now and they have lots of dresses in at the moment...so i'll have a look at that. i did look on ebay but have never had much success buying 'off the peg' because of my body shape so i really need to try stuff on. and since having ds my body shape has changed too.....

that rainbow dress is just too beautiful......wish i had that much money to spend!

Zara has lots of really nice "going out" dresses at the moment and they are not expensive - worth a look if you have one near.

MrsBadger · 10/08/2006 11:36

my immediate first thought is
black strapless prom dress (great boost for small boobs)
with coloured bangles as suggested for the Rubick's Cube party (try charity shops or steal dd's threading beads)
hair up and spangly necklace for the posh-frock 21st (Claire's or charity shop again)
with shrug/wrap/cardi for the christening - you might even have a suitable one already.

Finding one the right shape for you is the clincher, and the prom dress shape may not suit you at all (i like it but that's me).

The 8th one along on the Dorothy Perkins site may work
or the 8th one along at Topshop .
If you have a petite bottom, there's a black 'bustier dress' at Miss Selfridge if you scroll right down to the bottom that'd be very flattering for small boobs.
Wallis have black dresses in a wide variety of shapes - I rather like the Grecian jersey one but it could be disastrous with small boobs - their mesh one and shift ones are v nice though.

oh, and try New Look too - their website is no good though
