Trousers for tall, solidly built boys bigger than age 12 size

Ds is 9 but just grown out of age 12 trousers. The problem is that after 12 trousers seem to become trendy and slim fitting. Ds cannot get these over his knees! He is not fat but is solid and needs something looser fitting. He also prefers an elasticated waist. He has tracksuit trousers, but I am looking for something a bit smarter.

ds(12) is the same. i got him some trousers in primark the other day, chinos as the skinny fit don't fit! it's so annoying as it costs so much extra

I'm watching this with interest. My DS is 12 but sounds like a similar build to yours. Next do elasticated waist jeans and also plus size in certain jean styles.

DoItTooJulia · 21/02/2014 16:57

Ds is the same!

I got a pair of jeans from h and m. Relaxed fit, no button at the waist, he's also 9 and I had to buy age 13 trousers!

The skinny fit ones that hm do, don't go past his knees, so I was pleased to get a pair that actually fit him.

A friend of mine has had some good trousers from www.sturdykids.co.uk/, they do alterations if you need them.

I've bought my 9yr old ds school trousers from the BHS generous fit range and the age 9 actually fit him!! I normally have to size up massively - ie 13/14 yrs old & then chop about a foot of the length!! I'm going to try their jeans in the same range too, but the reviews aren't that great so will just have to order some & see how we get on. I've just bought some jeans in the sale from Debnhams - again aged 13/14 and even they won't go anywhere near him round the waist & that was on causal fit jeans.
I did buy some elasticated waist jeans from Zara kids which are ok but had to buy larger size and are too long in the leg. So OP I really feel your pain!

these look good - though they should be longer than on the model? - but they are cotton trousers with a tracksuit type waist.

they also do in black as well

my ds lives in these ones which are good too and a nice price

RonaldMcDonald · 21/02/2014 19:17

don't m&s do ranges for fatter skinnier etc?

mercibucket · 21/02/2014 19:33

did you try asda?

ilovepowerhoop · 21/02/2014 19:37

Next does plus fit trousers/jeans

dementedma · 21/02/2014 21:52

Ds is 12 and built like a tank. Only ever wears jogging bottoms as everything else too skinny.
Buying school trousers is annual nightmare.

ihearttc · 21/02/2014 22:51

DS1 is 9 (well he is next week) and built like a rugby player.

I usually have to buy age 12/13 jeans as well.

I get BHS generous fit school trousers in age 9 and they fit perfectly however out of school he has Next jeans with a jersey waistband. They are lovely and soft with a waistband like jogging bottoms but are proper jeans.

Lands End children's clothes were always a good fit for my tall and sturdy-legged DCs. They also do (or did) some styles in a 'husky' fit (ie plus sizes) if you need a bigger waist/more generous fit on the thighs.

WandaDoff · 21/02/2014 22:56

I was going to recommend the BHS generous fit stuff as well, I think M&S & next have ranges as well.

^^ These used to be good to get trousers with elasticated waists, DS1 has left school now so not used them in a while, but never had any problems Smile

My son is 15 , tall but with big legs. I buy plus fit jeans from next. Marks do school trousers for plus fit too. They aren't massive- but I found Bhs were.
