Please dress me I have no idea about what suits, I haven't worn a dress since my wedding 12 years ago , but want to be brave. I have a wedding evening do to attend in June and there will be lots of friends and family that I've not seen for years. I'm a size 16 and 5 foot 7 with heavy legs and smallish boobs, not fancying a maxi dress but want to look amazing with the whole works. I think I could get away with knee length but am clueless , I'm a warm colouring please give me some fab ideas Smile

We need to know more - Waht sort of price range? Favourite colour to wear? What's your position on sleeves - for example, I'll wear sleeveless, 1/2, 3/4 and long sleeves but can't take sleeves that fall on the upper arm. Body shape?

MrsLettuce · 19/02/2014 17:52

Oh, right, yeah: and what sort of stunning are you after? IYSWIM.

buttercrumble · 19/02/2014 17:54

I think I would prefer a sleeve either short or 3/4 although I guess it will be warm in June , I'm 40 years old and could stretch to £150 for a dress. I'm open to any colour apart from purple or orange Smile

Vintage style? Could have it made to measure within budget (I think) and you could see if you could have it made in a cotton or something lighter for summer/more your colours?
Floral? Though I'd wear it with a modern belt to make it less twee (something like this)
Depending what fabric is like in real life
Unusual pattern
Over-budget but lovely colour

Also don't forget to look at separates, I think a full skirt like this, this or this could look stunning with a cream or gold top.

buttercrumble · 20/02/2014 11:24

Ooh thanks pearlygrey , I'm slightly in love with those ted baker skirts and never thought to look at separates .

a friend, who is an ex-buyer for Harrods told me once that it doesn't really matter what you wear as you need 3 things to look amazing:

  • great hair
  • great lips
  • grear jewellery

I think she got that right!

ZingSweetApple · 20/02/2014 11:40

*great jewellery

not grearGrin

No problem, if you like the print they have a few tops in it that might go with the plainer skirt I linked too. You may also like this dress?

I'd try Reiss for plain but pretty tops, maybe something like this?
