Diorshow Blackout Mascara - What am I doing wrong?

I normally use YSL Shocking which I absolutely adore but I never learn to just buy what works for me and went for this instead and its awful. Clumps like nothing I've ever used! How can I make it work for me as I can't afford to go and repurchase my YSL now.
Is it just me that finds this mascara awful??

Yes definitely take it back. Where did you get it? I've taken cosmetics from eg clinique back to boots before and also stuff to mac. Might need to brass neck it a bit but I can't afford to have a £25 foundation or mascara lying about unused.
