Can anyone recommend a good facial scrub?

At the minute I'm using Nivea but like something a little bit harsher.

Could anyone recommend a good exfoliating facial scrub please

Why on earth do you want to use something harsh on your face?

Are you sure you need to exfoliate?

I know scrubbing feels nice and 'clean', but your skin won't thank you for it in the long run.

BornToFolk · 09/02/2014 20:32

That St Ives apricot one is the best, IMHO. It's proper scrubby and leaves my skin nice and soft.

nannyj · 09/02/2014 20:33

I second st Ives.

Lighthousekeeping · 09/02/2014 20:36

The sea salt one from Lush is fantastic. I use it once a fortnight.

buttercrumble · 09/02/2014 20:37

I third St. Ives

Nombrechanger · 09/02/2014 20:42

Clean and Clear Daily scrub. It's fabulous!!

ThePearShapedToad · 09/02/2014 20:43

I love this body shop blue corn one- proper hard scrubby bits in it

mask

I've tried St Ives apricot. It's okay.
Currently, I just use Ivory bar soap and give my face a proper scrub with a washcloth every few days. It seems to exfoliate just fine and get the dead skin accumulation off. Wouldn't want to do it every day, as it's a little harsh and leaves my skin red for an hour or so after. Every few days/couple of times a week seems to work for me; the other days, I just use soap, no washcloth.
I've also started using Witch Hazel as a toner. I rub it on my face with a cotton ball before bed, and it seems to make my face nice and smooth, and my pores smaller.

Clinique Exfoliating Scrub - not the 7 day scrub one, the Exfoliating Scrub. The beads in it are synthetic (not ground-up apricot kernels like St Ives) and so they are perfectly spherical and will give your skin a good clean and exfoliate without scratching. It won't irritate your skin, it just takes off the dead skin and leaves it really smooth. I love it and have never found anything anywhere near as good.

Leviticus · 09/02/2014 21:43

Came on to say EXACTLY what emsyj said. Nothing else comes close. It does precisely what you want in terms of harshness.

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/02/2014 21:55

Superdrug Vitamin E scrub - has oatmeal pieces instead of anything scratchy but is still effective. Also, use a flannel to wash your face with instead of just your hands - the flannel will naturally be a bit scrubby.

HelloBoys · 09/02/2014 22:47

I use the Botanics one which is ok. I'm going to retry the Superdrug Vit E one when I run out.

madmomma · 10/02/2014 08:12

Origins modern friction is hardcore. Particularly if you use it on dry skin. £30 though, but you'd only use a smidge once a week.

RipMacWinkle · 10/02/2014 08:13

I love the Lz Earle one. Very gentle but effective and it smells great

madmomma · 10/02/2014 08:14

Mind you my gran only used soap and she had amazing skin so what do I know?

RubyGoat · 10/02/2014 08:16

I use the St Ives sensitive one.

RubyGoat · 10/02/2014 08:18

Apparently my DGM only washed her face with water, but then she never used makeup. She had fabulous skin.

Blithereens · 10/02/2014 08:20

St Ives. Been using it for ten years and live in c

Blithereens · 10/02/2014 08:21

...onstant fear they'll discontinue it.

DH uses Ocean Salt from Lush. It's too harsh for me but the smell is amazing!!!

HappyGirlNow · 10/02/2014 08:39

St. Ives here too :-) But Simple exfoliating wipes are good too..

peasandlove · 10/02/2014 08:48

I make my own with sugar lemon and honey, it works better than any scrub and leaves your face smooth and glowing

Mum2Tigers · 10/02/2014 08:57

Body shop vit c microdermabasion (not the daily scrub). Around tenner and very effective - I prefer it to the origins one mentioned upthread. But better than a scrub is the Eve Lom cleanser, used with a flannel daily. Skin never looked so clear.

LabRat72 · 10/02/2014 08:59

What emsyj said, the Clinique one, NOT the 7 day one which is nowhere near scrubby enough.
Reminds me, I need to buy some more.

CattyBrown · 10/02/2014 09:05

Thanks guys. There are a few to choose from there Smile
