Which Monsoon dress? Opinions needed.

I need a dress for a daytime function. It needs to be quite sensible and I'd like sleeves as it is likely to be cold. I have a nice black coat and shoes.

I am a size 18, age 40ish and like Monsoon.

Any opinions on these dresses. Thanks

I prefer the Samba dress

letitburn · 09/02/2014 12:27

What sort of function is it? They all look quite casual to me, I think I prefer the last of all of them.

LIZS · 09/02/2014 12:28

How formal is it ? Prefer 1st or 3rd, 3rd the more formal

releasethehounds · 09/02/2014 12:30

I like them all and are the style I would go for as they would be quite flattering on me (pear shape). TBH there's not much between them, but if I had to choose it would probably be Cleo. Do you have a preference?

mrssmith79 · 09/02/2014 12:32

First or third, although the second is nice I don't think it lends itself well to black tights / coat.

purpleminion · 09/02/2014 12:38

It's a memorial service in a church followed by buffet meal. It will be formal but not dressy IYSWIM. Jersey dress and coat is suitable.

I prefer the shape of the Nevada but not 100% on the pattern in close up, like the Samba and the Cleo I think.

I think the Samba is the nicest of the 3.

Frozenatchristmas · 09/02/2014 13:02

Samba. Don't like second and first looked ok but poor reviews.

Cocolepew · 09/02/2014 13:04

I like the 3rd one.

Twinklestein · 09/02/2014 13:35

Nevada by far: flattering shape, pretty colours. Samba is not good shape for an 18 and its ruching round the middle will not be flattering.

DaftSkunk · 09/02/2014 13:40

I like the second one.

HeadFullofSteam · 09/02/2014 13:54

They are all lovely, will be having a look at them myself! Of the three, I prefer the Samba.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 09/02/2014 13:56

1st or 3rd. 1st is nicest of them all.

vitaminC · 09/02/2014 16:58

The Samba, definitely!

winterhat · 09/02/2014 17:02

For a memorial service, definitely the Samba. I also like the Nevada but would wear it for a more cheerful event like a lunch party.

Roshbegosh · 09/02/2014 17:08

The samba is a wrap style, will it fly open all the time and show a mile of thigh when you sit down?

SuburbanSpaceperson · 09/02/2014 17:15

What shape are you? If you are hourglass or pear then Samba is lovely, for an apple shape Navada would be good but I would wear it with either very thick tights or leggings as it looks as though it would ride up a bit if you sit or bend down. I'm not keen on Cleo but that's probably because I have a dislike for garments that tie at the back with a little string.

burnishedsilver · 09/02/2014 17:31

Samba.

purpleminion · 09/02/2014 17:36

Thanks everyone. Still no further along with my decision.

Think I might order all 3 keep the best one.

The first one is likely to be more flattering if it's viscose as it'll have more drape. I often wonder why larger women think jersey dresses are flattering. Unless you have fabulous foundation stuff on underneath, they cling and emphasise every bulge and bump, especially from the back. I'm a 16 (have been bigger) and I look a good 2 sizes bigger in a jersey dress.

basia2 · 09/02/2014 18:58

I like #1, the Cleo.
