I'd hang fire on the accent colour till the big things are in place - you may find that you have enough Stuff (pictures, vases, plants etc) not to need specific accents. Orange sounds nice though.

We swap cushion covers when we get bored - have some v good red velvet ones (Peacocks) that we use in winter to make it feel more cosy.

Ours is awful! DH did it before we were together and we haven't changed it since

Blue and cream striped wallpaper
Manky looking blue carpet
white woodwork
black leather sofa with blue cushions

and....

Burgandy curtains - I really should get some new ones!

YellowFeathers · 04/08/2006 15:05

Dark wood floor
Black leather sofa
Oaky coloured tv unit and matching sideboard
Cream and brown accessories
Main wall painted chocolate brown and the other walls cream

Have ye olde beams and fire so everything goes IYSWIM.

I vote for adding some red. Could you paint one wall, like the chimney breast? and add some detail like a cushion in the settee and some ornaments in orangey, reddish?

LucyJones · 04/08/2006 15:09

we have cream walls and a red carpet - goes really nicely together but unfortunately the carpet clashes with the beige one in the hall!!

crunchie · 04/08/2006 15:11

Dirty cream/beige carpet. Creamy wicker looking texture wallpaper (sounds yuck is fab) Curtains in terracotta, cream, brown, greens etc (eg patterned stripes) One sofa terracotta, on chair tapestry weave, one sofa (v manky will be replaced) in Navy covered with throw. Antique afgan rugs on floor, piano and bookcase covered with framed photos. Pretty Shakespeare watercolours on walls.

Sounds horrid, but it is really OK. Not to 'done'. Personally I don't like the decorated look IYKWIM. My rooms 'evolve'
