It's my birthday next month and DD2 turns 1 three days before, which means I'm going to start thinking about stopping breastfeeding ...

So - bye bye nursing bras, hello - um, strangely-shaped boobs that none of my old bras fit! Time for a birthday voucher request I think!

Normally wouldn't splash out on undies but if now's not the time I don't know when will be.

Should've said, what I'm looking for is someone who'll point me in the direction of a beautiful bra that'll make me look fabulous with my clothes on, even if I'm a bit alarmed by what I look like naked

What size are you roughly?

If your biggish in the booby-doo (ds 5 years!)department you need Bravissimo. Try their website for stores near you. The fitting service, advice and bras are all fab. You can't go wrong there!

Have a great time.

franch · 04/08/2006 09:46

Biggish .... nooo, definitely NOT my problem

M&S do bra-fitting service. they 'did' me all through my last pregnancy and were very helpful

Neena28 · 04/08/2006 09:47

Oh not really my thing then, sorry!

But bump for advice rom little norked people!

franch · 04/08/2006 09:50

Thanks Moomin - do they advise on styles to improve your shape?? Might well go there myself once I've stopped bf but think I can justify a bit more of a treat from dh on this occasion

Thanks for the bump Neena

My local branch of Contessa is very good - I went in there yesterday to have a preliminary look at non-feeding bras (as DD is doing very little breastfeeding these days).

She was excellent, bringing me loads of types to try on, and she was also very good at making them fit me properly.

I am also of the small chested variety of person (maybe 32B on a good day) and they had lots of different types in that size.

Your birthday must be near mine - I'm the 8th September .

Rigby & Peller is really good - it's best to go on a weekday as Saturdays are v busy.

Alternatively - could you do a search for independent lingerie shops in your area. There was a great shop in the town I used to live in and the owner really knew her stuff and had a fantastic range of bras etc. I still go there when I don't fancy going into central London, a half hour trip down the motorway is worth it.

MrsBadger · 04/08/2006 10:00

Rigby & Peller give good advice as well as the whole measuring thing.
Did you see How to Look Good Naked this week? The featured girl had (IMO) most peculiarly shaped norks - 32B, so petite rather than non-existent.
The Rigby & Peller lady found her a bra that coaxed them into a more normal shape, and also got her a pair of chicken-fillet gel things and (this was key apparently) a different bra to wear them in, because if you put them in a bra that fits your naked boobs they end up looking really weird.

Personally I've always found that M&S is exactly the right shape for me, but because R&P are independent and sell lots of different brands you can try on heaps and find a make that's the right cut for you.

PiccadillyCircus · 04/08/2006 10:01

Can I point out that 32B does not make your boobs that weird .

They are nicely shaped (if a little lopsided )

MrsBadger · 04/08/2006 10:03

no, no, I meant 32B was a perfectly normal size (and I should know ), just the girl on the programme was a strange shape.

PiccadillyCircus · 04/08/2006 10:04

Sorry - just wanting to continue my feeling that small boobs are OK .

franch · 04/08/2006 14:50

Thanks for the ideas everyone. Think I may go for R&P plus M&S

PC: I'm 13 Sept, DD2 is the 10th. Flat-chested Virgoes rock

franch, i think you are nearish me... in which case, there's a new R&P at Brent Cross

flutterbee · 04/08/2006 14:54

Rigby & Peller really are the best, my Mum went a year or so ago and discovered that as a 55 year old woman she had been wearing the wrong size bra most of her life. The lady in the shop even told my Mum what size and style bra she needed before my Mum had taken her top off Mum says she has never ever felt as comfortable in bras as she does now.

flutterbee · 04/08/2006 14:56

MrsBadger that lady on how to look good naked was the best friend of a lady on here, I agree her boobs looked fab after a bit of coaxing.

strongmints · 04/08/2006 14:56

so what would a bra from r and p end up cosdting?

franch · 04/08/2006 14:59

There are some prices on the link MrsB posted strongmints, if you go to the photos page

Rigby and Peller is just gorgeous and the staff are so helpful. The shop looks like a high class tart's boudoir. Special as soon as you go in. Definately worth it.

Went with my friend for her wedding undies. Do have a quick check of the price tags as you fit on though. My friend fitted on some knickers, decided to take them, didn't check the price and ended up paying £45 for them. She nearly corpsed. Her corset on the other hand was about £80 which seemed like relatively good value!
