Hot cloth, am I being stupid?

Reading so much on here about everyone raving about them, I bought some flannels and decided to give it a go

Figured to start with I can just using my normal face wash and use the hot cloths on that to get the routine in place before I go spend silly money on clensers etc...

So dampened face..... Put on face soap (not soap but YKWIM), then wrung out hot wet flannel and gently massaged soap off my face with it. Then dried face

But.... The gentle movement of flannel over face was the same movement I then did moments later when I dried my face....

So it is pointless? Or am I already doing the hot towels thing just with a dry towel at the end? Or am I doing something wrong?

What bit are you confused about? Sounds like you're doing it right-damp face, cleanser, wash off, dry.

Hahaha just wondering why I need to, because the action of drying my face is the same as the action of the hot cloth? So.......

I'm either doing it wrong, or doing it twice?

I thought the point was the heat opens up your pores and allows a deeper clean. Also, thought it was meant to be muslin cloth so not as abrasive as a regular flannel?

Yes, unless you're using a hot, wet towel to dry your face, you're not doing it twice!

Ah ok, so it's the hot wet part as well as the scrubbing action that matters

I was told to make the flannel as hot as you can bare, wring it out and place over face for a few second, ideally about 30 then make the flannel hot again and then wash off the cleanser. Pat dry with a dry towel/cloth.

Also, the cleanser I have with the cloth is different to my normal face wash. It's not drying or soap-like - more of a cream, really.

I'd use a cream cleanser like Liz Earle or the Superdrug one, rather than a foaming cleanser - gentler.

Ah ok, like a steaming type effect?

I use the No7 hot cloth cleanser and it comes with a fab muslin style cloth.
