Next deliver next day and have lovely suits . I would wear a shift dress and jacket .

BellaVita · 04/02/2014 07:58

House of Fraser and John Lewis do next day.

MrsReacher85 · 04/02/2014 08:00

I highly recommend javari.co.uk if you need shoes or a handbag, it's free next day delivery and free returns so you can order extra and return what doesn't work.

Don't panic - you still have time.

I assume you're aware that a family court hearing is not a full blown High Court trial? Of course you are. And assuming you have legal representation it will be for them to put your case. As long as you are not so unkempt as to raise eyebrows you do not have to "dress up". You do not have to wear black! You probably want to dress for a day in an office. (Including comfortable shoes.)

It might help if you could say what your budget is and where you usually shop. (So you'll know if things will fit.) Absolutely do not spend any more money than you can reasonably afford.

I can understand that a new outfit might boost your confidence - but are you sure you don't have a simple, neat dress that you could add a new jacket to?

Dorothy Perkins do next day delivery too, for an extra charge.

curiousgeorgie · 04/02/2014 08:33

Yes, I have a solicitor who has instructed us to dress smartly,

I shop High Street usually.. I like Next because the delivery is usually so reliable... Can anyone link to a dress / jacket?

I've been a SAHM for 2.5 years and before that worked in tv where I wore casual every day... Smart doesn't really exist in my wardrobe, I worried enough about what to wear to the solicitor Wink

I'm not so worried about the budget, don't want to spend hundreds of pounds but I do want to look right. I'm so nervous and worried, I think knowing the clothes are sorted take an element away!

Next have got some nice dresses in their clearance -

www.next.co.uk/clearance/?r=cs#%2Fsearch%3Fp%3DQ%26lbc%3Dnext-offers%26ts%3Dvision%26w%3D*%26cnt%3D16%26method%3Dand%26af%3Dcat%3Awomenswear%20sub%3Adresses%20si%3A16r%26isort%3Dbst%26pfg%3DOFFERS007%26sale%3DOFFERSNEW%26nxti%3D0%26nxtv%3D000%26images%3Don%26srt%3D0

The navy metallic shift dress or the print wrap dress are both more formal-looking and smart. Easy to match with black/navy flats or court shoes.

If you need to be stricter with a budget, a (knee lengthish) skirt, top and smart (plain colourish) cardi is OK to wear rather than feel uncomfortable in a jacket - good luck x

littleredsquirrel · 04/02/2014 09:12

Honestly you do not need a suit. believe me, I'm a solicitor and in court every week and I only own one suit (which is about three years old). I mainly wear dresses, dark tights and boots. Buy or borrow a nice structured dress that you can wear again for other things. Ideally reasonably conservative, dark colour, no massive cleavage on display but no need to be boring.

dramajustfollowsme · 04/02/2014 09:13

My bf is a solicitor. A lot of her suits come from Asda. She doesn't look scruffy. They were pretty cheap when she was just starting and strapped for cash.

Whatfun · 04/02/2014 09:20

I sit in the Family Court all the time. You do not need a suit. A smart dress with a neat cardigan and boots or a pair of black trousers with a smart shirt will be fine. Do not spend loads of money on something you won't wear again.
What is more important is the way you conduct yourself in court.
