Looking for a buttoned shirt for big boobs...on a budget!

Does such a thing exist? Or am I deluded?

I am a size 10-12 round the waist but my norks are a honking 32G so they either pop the buttons off or I have to get a larger size which then flaps around my middle like a great billowing tent.

Please don't say Pepperberry, I quite like their clothes but it is waaaaay out of my price range Sad

I was going to say pepperberry, but have a look at their sale. I just ordered a lovely jacket for half price.

Biubiu are a bit cheaper (although postage to factor in)

However, chances of getting one on the high street are pretty slim (owner of some 30HHs, you can't get the damn things in a standard shirt!)

PilchardsonToast · 31/01/2014 22:21

You can get some pepperberry stuff from ebay new with the labels cut out - have a look there's usually quite a bit available

Allinafankle · 31/01/2014 22:26

I have a lovely one from BiuBiu. Bigger waist than you and a 38F but it fits like a dream. Haven't had a decent-fitting buttoned shirt since I was at school! Grin

CMOTDibbler · 31/01/2014 22:35

Theres always Pepperberry shirts on ebay

Cristiane · 31/01/2014 22:35

I bought a silk shirt from autograph at m and s recently

It has hidden buttons that go the other way, ie from the outer button flap into the underneath one, and the hidden buttons stop any gaping. These mini buttons are placed in the middle of the normal button gaps

It's a beautiful pure silk shirt

I love it/ am same size as you too

Pepperbury is expensive and the quality of the fabrics is awful!

Can you use a sewing machine, OP? The best thing to do is to buy a shirt you like, a couple of sizes bigger than usual - so it fits well at the bust - and take in the side seems to fit your waist.

You should make sure the shirt has plenty of stretch (look for at least 3-4% elastane in the fabric) as that will make it sit better once altered.

I have a very hourglass figure (big boobs and hips and a tiny, tiny waist) and I have to get almost all my clothes taken in! I occasionally do it myself if I have time, but it's usually my mum or a dressmaker these days...

Kin at JL have a lovely blouse in the sale, it's cut frocked from the shoulders, and from the back of the neck. No buttons It's very very flattering, perfect for tucking into a skirt or trousers or wearing loose.

Sadly they've sold out of the cream (which I bought before it was on sale) but they have two other colours. The deep pink is lovely.

Why do you want buttons? Buttons and a big bosom aren't the best of friends Grin as the vertical, flat line of buttons fights with the roundedness and outward trajectory of your bosom.

Do you want to draw attention to your ample bosom, do you want to disguise it, or something else? Or perhaps you just like buttons? Grin

The trouble with buying a bigger size to fit your norks is that it's then often far too big on the shoulders.
If you can't sew, I can but don't always get round to altering things, I keep a pack of the very, very tiny brass safety pins you can buy from stationers or haberdashers & fasten one invisibly from the inside, under the gap where it gapes to keep it yogether. It works best on fabrics with a bit of stretch.

Got a biubiu vanity fair shirt this morning - really nice cut and quality, plenty of hip space too

ellesabe · 01/02/2014 20:58

Thanks everyone!

Vitamin c I do own a sewing machine but wouldn't trust myself to not make a mess of it.

beautiful visit I do just love buttons Grin

I popped into Pepperberry this afternoon to try some things on and get an idea of my size in case something suitable does pop up in the sale.
In fact, sod the shirt...I may have accidentally bought a GORGEOUS dress instead that makes me feel a million dollars...Woohoo!

I just got 2 shirts from here, a little cheaper than Pepperberry. dd-atelier.com/Tops/Formal-shirts/

dazzlingdeborahrose · 02/02/2014 08:52

I did buy two shirts from pepperberry. First time in years I've worn a button up shirt that fits properly. Always had to buy a size (or two) bigger and then it would be loose on the waist and shoulders. Keep checking the website. The shirts do pop up in the sales. This has been an interesting thread OP. Learned about a few other options. Thanks everyone.

Can't find a link on their website but I got a lovely denim shirt, poppers not buttons, from Zara yesterday. It's in their Trafaluc range and was reduced to €16. I am a size 14 but have a 34GG chest so really struggle with shirts. I got the L and it is perfect. Very unusual to find a shirt which actually "drapes" over my boobs - no pull at all. Try the English website?
