Where can I get merino wool sweaters at this time of year?

Yes Uniqlo - they have a few jumpers/polo necks in merino. Toast also have a few kicking about in their sale.

I agree, the website does them no favours, their stuff is amazing quality and so reasonable. I'm currently wearing a merino and cashmere cardi which was 40 quidShock

Definitely Uniqlo. Quality is good and price is fantastic.

The Outlet section of John Smedley have merino jumpers.
The quality is fantastic, much better than Gap and Uniqlo, in my experience.
