DS birthday party - what to wear

DS is 1 next week and we're having a family party but I'd like something new to wear but not sure what - any suggestions?! I guess it won't be too formal and I'll need to be able to play with him in whatever I wear but I want to make a bit of an effort.

I have been to a few parties and the best convo's always seem to be a slouchy or jersey dress in a casual colour with tights and casual boots. Boden do lots of nice dresses in this sort of style.
Or you can go the black skinnies, ballet pumps and soft vintage top route? Look at Warehouse?
