Please help me find a (cheap) nice dress for my birthday

I'm turning 30 next month and planning a night out with friends. This time last year I was a size 24, I am now a size 14-16. Some of the friends who are coming won't have seen me since I lost the weight so I'd really like to look my best! Money is tight so my budget is around the £40 mark - £50 at a push. I am a pear shape (16 on the bottom, 14 on top) with big boobs. I just don't know what suits me anymore. Please help!

I think a trip to the shops is in order. You need to find out which shapes now suit you. Do you have a decent department store nearby? they often have personal shoppers who will help you. You don't have to buy what they digest but could get an idea of what suits and then hunt it out online or in other shops. Well done for your achievements Grin x

Thanks dizhin, I have been clothes shopping many times recently but not bought anything as I just have no idea what looks good anymore, and just haven't managed to find anything I really liked enough. I don't think my budget would stretch to a personal shopper!

Are you still losing weight? I would suggest looking at e-bay, it is a great way to get some lovely clothes especially if you think you will go down in size some more. Look up some of the marks you like but can't afford.

Asos have 60% off tonight. Have a look there? Free delivery and returns.

ive no idea what kind of style you like, op, but i think this is nice:

Congratulations on your weight loss, you need to find something you feel amazing in.
If you have time google David Kibbe style analysis (sorry can't link on phone). I've had a bit of a journey of self discovery this weekend and reckon wearing the right colour and style of outfit will mean you can easily find something perfect within budget.

RubyLovesShopping · 26/01/2014 20:26

What colours can you wear?
What about something like this
from me+em
Or try their ruched dresses which are around £39 in the sale. You could order various sizes and colours to see what suits and if you continue to lose weight they sell v well on eBay. Well done on the weight loss it's a huge achievement Grin

Yes I am still losing weight, which is why I have been a bit reluctant in buying anything new, but I'm happy to splash out for this as it is a special occasion!

Will definitely have a look at Asos, I hadn't thought of that.

theincrediblealfonso - That is gorgeous, I love it! Definitely a contender, thank you.

I will have a look at David Kibbe now.

Thank you so much for all of your replies Thanks.

Ruby - That is nice, but looks more like a work outfit than a going-out dress to me.

Go onto the House of Frazer website - there are some great dresses in the sale. Asos does have fab lace dresses too - like the one linked for you. Well done on the weight loss!

Pompbear · 01/02/2014 19:31

Search for "butterfly dress" at DP. It's an amazingly flattering fit for your shape. A sort of coral colour with black. Sorry, I can't paste the link for some reason. Congrats on your weight loss! Have a great time whatever you wear x

Congrats on the weight loss. I just bought this in the Isme sale- get the 16

If you are trying Isme, get a friend to recommend you and you get £20 off your first order (they get £20 credit when you pay for your order). You also don't have to pay up front so can order several sizes. Pick Collect Plus to save postage costs too. if you don't have a friend with an account and want to, pm me.
