Please help me find a dress!

Hello, I never post here, but I hope some of you can help me. Since having 3 children in quick succession I have put on quite a bit of weight and have somewhat lost my sense of style. In my early 20s I had several wardrobes full of beautiful vintage dresses which I found scouring charity shops and was very proud of. After the 3rd child at 28 I gave them away. They didn't fit and I hated them reminding me of how confident I used to feel. Now my style is probably considered quite alternative in the very northern rural area I live in, but I still look crap most days.

I have a wedding next month and after hours of painful laptop surfing could only find one dress which I like. However, after measuring my body and phoning to check whether the dress has any "give" it's safe to say it won't fit me. The XL roughly equates to a 14, I do usually take a 16 on the bottom half but can sometimes fit a 14 on top. Looks like I'll need a size 16 now. I do intend to start slimming, but won't have time to fit into this dress.

To be honest I don't even know what I'm looking for. Something fun and colourful, wedding appropriate, maybe vintage looking. Not tight round the thigh/bum! Due to my impending diet and the fact that I have no more fancy occasions this year I don't want to spend too much money, certainly not higher more than £100.

Can anyone suggest anything? Something that they know looks good on them or have seen a friend wearing? I'm size 16, 5 foot 8, and would ideally like below the knee or calf length. I'm pushing 30 if my age makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for your help, I honestly used to be able to wear anything and feel good in it, as well as being able to know exactly what I liked! This terror at choosing something to wear is really unnerving!

This is the dress that I found and liked, if it gives you an idea of what I like... www.voodoovixen.co.uk/dresses?product_id=239

I would pay the money and get a circle skirt dress, possibly with a 'Peggy Would' top half, from Whirlingturban. It will be over budget, but will be beautifully made, lovely quality for the price and forgiving and alterable if you lose weight. And a big swooshy petticoat for underneath, of course.
