In a country hotell.
How do I decide what to wear and when to start looking for it?
What do other people do to solve such problems?
I hardly ever shop, I find weddings to be really hard to know what to wear for.
I did buy a beautiful Hobbs black dress for the last wedding I went to but it is hard to wear black all day.

It all seems about bare legs and god help me I can't do that! I don't want to scare the horses!
But when should I start looking and where do people look?
I'm over 40 and not troubled by being too skinny to find anything which suits me.
Big thanks and would appreciate advice from a shopaphobic.
I like simple elegant things,
accesorising terrifies me.
I want to look nice, just appropriately dressed. I don't want to be a topic of conversation or make statement or risky fashion choices.

Ok, what size/height/shape are you - which colours do you like and what's your budget please?

mrsjavierbardem · 21/01/2014 12:58

I'm 5'8
size 14-16
very fair skin
dark hair
I've always tended towards Hobbs
I like simple elegant clothes in natural fabrics
hate cleavage out
can't do super high heels
Can't do bare legs.
I find when I shop that everything is really small in the best, I have a fairly generous rack!
But I think I like to dress as if I was still a smoking skinny lass and I ain't!
But in terms of when stuff is in the shops, when would you aim to buy an outfit for end of March?
Budget, I'm not sure yet, but Hobbs LK Bennett, Jigsaw.

Phase eight have specific link to wedding guest dresses ( I have a similar problem for wedding in early February, so appreciate your pain!). I quite link the look of a dress/ matching bolero or jacket depending in how formal you want to be something like this perhaps ?

Non cleavage scaring

What sort of shape are you?

this with a jacket/shrug/shawl may work if you are hourglass, personally I'm a bit of a barrel shape and prefer something like this

FluffyJumper · 21/01/2014 16:55

Something from here

MarianForrester · 21/01/2014 17:24

I think that Phase eight is risky, as it is kind of a go to shop for wedding guest outfits, like Coast, so that someone else might have the same dress.

I'd try Jaeger Lots of dresses that might fit your brief.

Thanks for all these suggestions, some really good food for thought.

The whole do is in one hotel where most are staying, do you think most people will change for the evening do?
Thanks
