Which accessories for this dress?

I've just gotten this dress for my graduation ball, but I'm not sure what to wear with it.

I'm quite an elderly graduate and quite portly too, so would like to cover up, but would still like to look a bit glamorous too.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as all I can think of is a black pashmina, which is a bit meh, to be honest.

Thanks Smile

Sorry not a fashionista but I know mumsnetter tethersend will have exactly the right ideas. So I recommend you post again but sending an SOS to tethersend. :)

It's not clear from the photo, but the dress is grey.

That's nice seasalt - with a clutch the same colour, perhaps?

I'm short, so the shoes aren't terribly important. I've a pair of sparkly, silver sling backs that I've only worn once, so I think I'll go with them.

Not sure about jewellery...

That sounds nice. Maybe some diamanté jewellery?

I would go for vintagy look smoky grey gems costume jewellery set in black or pewter

Gorgeous pashminas sea salt :) I second vintage jewellery idea from rubywaxamillion :)

I really like the idea of one of these, think you would have to try the two together/try a few different ones. One of those things that will either looking amazing or completely shit!

I wouldn't wear a pashmina - all the detail in the dress is in the bust and you'll cover it up... I'd go with a bolero or a shrug. Chandelier earrings would work as accessories, or alternately a statement cuff bracelet? Shoes I would keep simple and matching the tone of the dress as you don't want to draw attention to your feet.

WeileWeileWaile · 18/01/2014 23:18

I was thinking of wearing the pashmina tied at the back, so as to cover my shoulders, but leave the front on display - like the picture.

Perhaps a shrug would be better - I really like the the capelet & chiffon shrug linked to, but I want a bit more coverage. Something, a bit less opaque iyswim.

I really love the idea of vintage jewellery - just trying to find some now. Chandelier earrings are a great idea too.

What do you think of something like this for my hair? Or is it too much?

I wouldn't put something like that in your hair. If you had a really plain dress maybe, but there is a bit of bling on the dress and anyway those headband things can look a bit daft (I put them in the same category as fascinators ie if you're not actually a princess wearing a tiara then the only thing that should go on your head is a hat).

WeileWeileWaile · 19/01/2014 15:58

Sage advice whereisshe - I'll leave it, so.

Very pretty dress. I'd wear a statement necklace, grey heels & maybe a marabou shrug to the venue to keep you warm.
