What do you think of these boots?

I need a pair of flat boots that are water resistant, but don't want wellies.

I'm 24 and a full time uni student so spend my days surrounded by young stylish people. I have no style sense whatsoever, and am on a tight budget. What do you think of these in brown? I'm not sure at all.

I really like them. Forget about what the trendies are wearing, FWIW I loathe all the current fashions. Have you trwww.peacocks.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/rollover_image/186x230/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/4/9/49588_dark_brown_3.jpgied peacock, they have these

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 18/01/2014 11:29

I think they are hideous, sorry. I think if you like them and they are what you are looking for you should get them regardless though. There's no point picking boots to suit other people Smile

eurochick · 18/01/2014 11:31

I like them. I think they will look good with skinnies and a chunky jumper.

AmIatwat · 18/01/2014 11:31

oopsie, sorry about that .

fedupandfifty · 18/01/2014 11:34

I like them too. Don't worry about what other are wearing: the whole point about being astudent is that you CAN wear what you like and develop you own style.

I wouldn't wear them now, but I would've as a student, many moons ago.

I hate the current look for students. They look so samey!

I used to buy Chelsea boots for work, the steel toe cap ones for about £20. When they were new I could wear them with jeans and they looked great a bit like these. Get mine from the market,

I like them. Snow boots are actually having a style moment, wear with a chunky short coat, big scarf and skinny jeans...

Ifancyashandy · 18/01/2014 11:42

They are very ugly and should not be in the same sentence as 'style'. That said, they are serious waterproof boots - the kind a farmer or gardener or someone with a need to be outside for a long time might wear. They would ensure their feet were very warm and dry.

They are 'work' boots.

BunnyLebowski · 18/01/2014 11:43

They are fine.

If you go to university in Alaska.

Tigerstripes · 18/01/2014 11:51

They do go beyond the words 'water resistant'. More like what Americans may be wearing right now in the polar vortex. If I want water resistant I wear my chelsea boots. Or any other leather boot. Completely waterproof on the other hand is something different. Which one do you need?

TheBuskersDog · 18/01/2014 12:04

I'm 24 and a full time uni student so spend my days surrounded by young stylish people.

You are 24, you are young as well.

Are you studying in a very wet place?

GideonKipper · 18/01/2014 12:11

They're the sort of muck boots I'd wear for dog walking.

Is £20 your budget?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2014 12:12

I'd wear them if I was doing alot of outdoor wet weather or walking through snow type activity.
But I couldn't drive in them and they look quite robust and inflexible so my feet and legs would be tired and knackered after a day of wearing them.

I'd wear with a gilet and skinny jeggings and fantasise that I was off to the stables.
But that might just be me.......Grin

burnishedsilver · 18/01/2014 12:12

They are snow boots. They are for the practicalities of walking in heavy snow and ice. They are not for everyday wear. In fact they are often heavy and stiff and uncomfortable for everyday wear.

I have a very similar pair, both in looks and price. The ankles don't bend, forcing me to stomp, which if fine if I'm trudging through snow but not fine on a day to day basis.

GideonKipper · 18/01/2014 12:18

I agree dd (7yrs) has a pair and she clomps around so ferociously in them you can hear her coming a mile off.

gilmoregirl · 18/01/2014 12:21

I agree that they are not for everyday wear - they are basically fur lined wellies with a padded top. I have a v similar pair but only wear them as snow boots. I think you would be uncomfortable walking and your feet would be too hot.

Clarks have some lovely ankle boots in their sale. Spray them with leather protector and polish them regularly and they will be ok in the winter.

snice · 18/01/2014 12:23

Are you expecting a polar vortex?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/01/2014 12:25

My DD wears her suede (not Uggs but that type) boots (TKMaxx/Costco) in all weathers after a good spray of waterproofer from Blacks.

Keeps her feet warm and dry.

(But I don't know if you'd wear Ugg Type. I can't abide them myself)

LEMmingaround · 18/01/2014 12:29

i dont think they look very comfy to be honest. blatant place marking for a pair of similar but more comfy

CatAssTrophy · 18/01/2014 13:13

(Smile) okay, I think I'll remove them from my list. It's the rubber that's putting me off. If they were that brown colour all over I'd like them.

I've had my fair share of water resistant boots but they're not good for puddles, heavy rain or snow and my feet always end up soaked. So when I saw these were waterproof I got so excited!

I'd say 40pounds is my maximum budget but ideally 30.

How about you have a look at Shoeaholics - it's Kurt Geiger's outlet site.

AmberNectarine · 18/01/2014 13:49

This sort if boot is very much en vogue at the moment!

WhereIsMyHat · 18/01/2014 13:55

I have just ordered some similar sorel ones for heavy rain/ snow days so I think yours would be good for bad weather days but not for every day.

Northernexile · 18/01/2014 15:11

You need a good biker boot.
