When to get rid of pre pregnancy clothes

Just wondering if anyone here accepted that they will never look like they used to before having their children and if so, when did they decide to get rid of clothes that no longer fit. I will need to throw everything from shoes, tights to underwear to work and leisure clothes, pyjamas etc out. It's no comfort saying it's just an excuse to go shopping now!

I threw everything out when dd (my second and last child) was 10 months old. Then lots of things conspired to make me lose weight. I could have done with them back 3 or 4 months later.

Shock why are you resigning yourself? You might go back. I will never resign myself to not going back. Ok, I've only had one so far but still!!

BingoWingsBeGone · 17/01/2014 21:32

I'm 3 stone lighter than pre pregnancy Grin

My feet swelled and then shrank again so same size as pre DC - some of my shoes are 15yrs old!

burnishedsilver · 17/01/2014 21:56

No, I kept them. Even my feet eventually went back to my normal size. Some things I was glad I kept, others looked shockingly out of fashion by the time I fitted back into them. The trouser leg widths and rise heights we hilariously dated. You don't really notice fashions changing that much when it happens gradually.

maillotjaune · 17/01/2014 22:23

I'm just starting to wear some trousers that I last wore before I was pregnant with DS3 who is now 4. The boot cut jeans fit but look terrible but I'm glad I kept the wide keg work trousers which wouldn't be cheap to replace.

How far post-pregnancy are you? I don't know anyone who didn't go back to their more-or-less pre-pregnancy weight and some who are thinner. It usually takes 6-12 months though.

nicelyneurotic · 17/01/2014 22:48

I was back in them within a year. Just throw out the unfashionable pieces and save the classic stuff - you never know!

plentyofsoap · 18/01/2014 05:21

Don't do it! I did the first time round. By the time I was pregnant again, five years later I was in the best shape ever.
This time I know I will get back to pre pregnancy shape. It does not happen over night though.

KosherBacon · 18/01/2014 06:35

I'm 15 months down. I threw out a load at 10 months and am now 16lb down and regret it. That being said, a lot of it was tatty and I've since had my colours done. I'm going to try and manage while I lose a bit more weight and then go for a HoC style day.

elQuintoConyo · 18/01/2014 06:48

DS is 2, I haven't managed to lose any weight whatsoever so that is complete bollocks Tondelayo
Feet are huge, stomach still massive.
Have got rid of a lot of clothes, still got some I can't bear to part with!

sksk · 18/01/2014 07:07

Well I'm nearly 6 months postpartum and I don't know how my shoulders and ribcage (now broader), not to mention hips and feet will ever return to pre pregnancy size. I have way too many clothes as it is and it is not realistic for me to get to the gym 3 times per week, and certainly won't be when I go back to work (plus I am studying). Plus a lot of styles just won't look good on me now, even if they were a bit more generous pre pregnancy.

6 months is nothing.... My back (bra size) went from 30 to 34 and didn't return to 30 until about 18 months post last dc. I think I started to loose weight at about 6 months. Are you breastfeeding, cause this effects ribs/boobs etc?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 18/01/2014 14:27

That is complete bollocks Tondelayo

It would be complete bollocks if I said that applied to everyone - that's why I said I don't know anyone - just my experience and anecdotal. Sorry you felt it dig Sad

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 18/01/2014 14:28

Sorry you felt it was a dig.

ToysRLuv · 18/01/2014 17:01

Took me 4 years to fit in all my pre pregnancy stuff. Had sold some things on e-bay, but kept others. Most of the stuff is not fashionable any more (bootcut jeans, etc.), though, so I might as well have chucked it really.
