What to wear for day out in London?

Hello S&Bites! :)

Could I enlist your help? I'm going for a day out on London that will include a morning shopping, afternoon in an art gallery, dinner at (what I think is) quite a cool place, then to a cocktail bar. I'm meeting up with some old friends and am looking forward to seeing them again, but what to wear? It's that old 'day-to-evening' thing. Also, being practical, I don't want to wear anything too heavy as it'll probably be warm in the restaurant and bar, but it's January! I am size 14, a bit overweight, pear-shaped. I'm 40.

Any ideas? I was thinking decent jeans and a nice top but is that a bit Miranda? (sorry Miranda! I mean on the TV show, not you in RL!) Grin

Sounds like you will be doing a fair amount of walking so makle sure your shoes are comfortable for you - I find heeled boots (usually I wear Ash) amazingly comfortable but if I thought it might rain and I would be outside I might just opt for knee high flat boots

Skinnies with a top, scarf & a decent coat over the top would be great though I would probably wear a dress as I find them so comfortable. Wallis have some good ones on sale at the moment

Thank you! Yes, I like dresses. Maybe dress + cardi...

Sounds fun..I would go for flat knee high boots, dark skinnies, a floral dressy top, a cardi(which you can put in yr bag later on) and tweedy type blazer

Yes, I do all these things a lot - not on same day though - and think you could choose between simple but smart dress - eg jersey - and boots or dark skinnies with nice top (I personally wouldn't go for anything pretty-pretty) with ankle boots. Either way, with interesting (not bling) necklace and scarf, as appropriate. Wouldn't think you'd need a cardi with the dress if you're wearing your decent coat. As you say, all these places - and the tube - are hot!

Boots definitely need to be comfortable.
