Need something cheap but looks nice for FIL's funeral

FIL died on Monday, his funeral is Tuesday and I have nothing to wear. Just got a HUGE vet bill as 2 of our horses got ill at the same time so no cash spare.
I hate shopping as I am a hourglass size 18 and nothing fits really. Need to get something not expensive, but looks really smart etc x

Next usually have some reasonably priced black jackets/suits. So sorry gor your loss x

NorthernLurker · 16/01/2014 12:52

Is this too much? Looks smart and comes in an 18.

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 12:55

Thank you, shall look in Next.

That dress is lovely, may see if I can try it on this weekend xx

This is available in an 18 from Tesco. It's only £16. Would it be suitable or do you want solid black?

MarianForrester · 16/01/2014 12:57

Tesco has some really nice stretchy dresses which are very flattering and comfortable and about £15. Well worth a look

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 16/01/2014 13:01

what about something from this page, there are some lovely black smart dresses at a very good price
www.clothingattesco.com/tailored+work-dresses/icat/wm-tailored-dresses

and you can get next day delivery to store

Do you have anything existing in your wardrobe that you could add to, eg some smart trousers

Is there a wake afterwards? Remember in the church/cemetery/crematorium you will probably be in a coat. Afterwards a dress with a cardigan would be lovely.

Also think about footwear, again depending on where the funeral/burial is, perhaps boot would be preferable to shoes at this time of year?

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 13:05

Thank you, I like that dress too, will speak to DH about what is happening, all still a bit raw. We will be inside a Church to start with then walking to where he will be buried I know we are going back to SMIL's home after with the rest of the family and friends x

I should have added, very sorry for your loss

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 13:10

Thank you xx

If you are walking to the burial then please think about your footwear. Gravesides are , in my experience , always cold and damp underfoot and emotions can play havoc with ones temperature control.

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 13:32

Thank you, I will most likely wear black boots over high heels, can not walk in them anyway xx

Sorry for your loss also.

Have you tried Primark? You might pick up something. I was in a similar position myself and got what I needed.

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 14:19

Thank you, shall be going round the shops this weekend xx

Youll have a coat on. All you need is comething fairly plain. It could be trousers and it doesnt have to be black. Theres lots of navy and grey around at the moment. There might be something in your wardrobe already.

I became a bit obsessed with what to wear to my mothers funeral but tbh I needed a diversion.

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 15:32

Thank you, I really do not have anything, we have horses and live on a farm, we also have an Alaskan Malamute, so my day is outdoors mucking out/dog walking/sorting our children out. I live in joggers/johds and hoodies lol.

What about ordering from a catalogue if you can't spare any cash. Pay for it over the next couple of months. Little woods have quite reasonably priced dresses and suits.

salemsparklys · 16/01/2014 15:49

It would need to be here by Monday as if not I would have to rush out and buy some thing x

Think they do deliveries on a Saturday so you could request next day delivery.
Do you know anyone your size who could lend you something? Even a friend of a friend.

godlessdomestic · 16/01/2014 19:30

Have a look on H&M, I bought a funeral black dress from there yesterday for £15.

I am sorry for your loss x
