I have in my head the idea that if I had some of these I would never have to spend time thinking about what to wear ever again but am struggling to find any.

I'm ideally looking for stretchy cotton or viscose (not polyester!), cream, off white, pale pink, pale silver-grey and they have to be plain, neckline can't be too low, they can't be too baggy or shapeless and they can't be sheer and must be easily washable. Also something that can be dressed up should the need arise (unlikely).

Has anyone seen anything like this? Budget around 50 as they're for daily wear with two small children :)

teta · 16/01/2014 12:30

Me and Em have several tops like that.I've just bought several in the sale to try on.They're mostly modal or a viscose/wool mix though.Monsoon are good for blouses and Matalan can be very good for basic tops.

WillieWaggledagger · 16/01/2014 12:33

this in ivory i've never bought from la redoute though

arightoldbag · 16/01/2014 12:37

Next! I have just bought two shirt blouse things, one in a pale goldish colour and one in a blue. They are long and smartish with a shirt collar and cover my bum. Just bought 2 scarves to go with them as well. Also in cream and not transparent thank god. With long sleeves u can roll up.

arightoldbag · 16/01/2014 12:38

Think about 35 quid. Only thing is they're not stretchy. V flattering tho - I'm 39 and size 14

quellehorreur · 16/01/2014 13:06

Thanks, hadn't thought of some of these palces, having a good look - most stuff sold out in my size now in Me + em, just had a look on Next, is it the utility shirt? What does the fabric feel like, it says it's polyester on the website.

I've seen a nice on on Baukjen too, the coco shirt, but it's too expensive really.

Have you looked at Lands' End? The quality is good but watch out for frumpy patterns.

quellehorreur · 16/01/2014 13:32

Can't see much on lands end, but have ordered one from next despite the polyester :)

Yes must be utility shirt. Fabric is soft and silky but not stretchy. Easy to mark as well if yr playing with kids which might be a problem?
