She wants green
She wants flowers like the neckline of www.angeldress.co.uk/taffeta-a-line-off-the-shoulder-asymmetric-waist-floor-length-sleeveless-vintage-ball-gown-prom-dress-p369723.htmlthis
She want the skirt a bit like [[http://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/157318672/sparkle-hi-low-sequins-spathetti-green?ref=sr_gallery_3&sref=sr_77c14eceb917e92c5cf27f808eb0173b4b8c39c953789ea58685b52e054cbf67_1389793902_14752573_dress&ga_search_query=green+prom+dress&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=GB&ga_search_type=all] or asymetric or floaty but mid length not long nor short

Nana is paying (thank goodness), so, where do I look?

Help me please?

Dressmaker? You might find one who will make what she wants and it is often cheaper.

KatyMac · 15/01/2014 20:40

Well this is not being successful

here

I think I've been looking at green dresses too long

OP posts:
KatyMac · 15/01/2014 20:50

Sorry I missed that HamletsSister

Maybe - I'd rather go the ready made way if possible

Try eBay my friend got a dress made for her sisters wedding

Custardo · 15/01/2014 21:22

ebay

goingmadinthecountry · 16/01/2014 00:11

Don't go for the order from abroad option - my dds know far too many girls who were disappointed with quality or nothing showed up. No money back on poor quality and last minute panic. Good luck - I've been there twice!! DS was so easy in comparison.

Rosencrantz · 16/01/2014 03:30

Has she tried stuff on?

It is very easy to be picky online, but once you've got a gorgeous thing wrapped around your body you fall in love and your original ideas go out the window.

I wear gowns a lot, and have bought tonnes over the years. Not once did I go in with a list as specific as your daughter, because they just don't ever exist.

Last one I bought, I knew I wanted volume in the skirt. Found the most gorgeous beaded lace in blush, with trumpet skirt. It pains me that I've only worn it once!

Green and flowery is a good place to start. Get thee to a shop!

DrNick · 16/01/2014 06:37

But. It's January fgs

Rosencrantz · 16/01/2014 07:20

January is a great time to get ball gowns in the sales.

DrNick · 16/01/2014 07:31

yes and a long time for them to change their minds. Specially when they hear what everyone else is wearing

KatyMac · 16/01/2014 07:53

I know but DD has 4 weekends days free before May............so we don't have much time to go shopping really

atm she is loving this

Hmm

Don't buy online. You have to go to a shop and try them on, see the quality etc. Book mark a weekend and go hunting. Wedding dress shops often sell prom dresses, but also coast, debenhams, HoF and if you can get to an outlet even better.

I have spent the past few months telling my dd not to buy online and not to get her heart set on a particular style. I have promised her a day or two of intensive prom dress shopping though....

MrsLettuce · 16/01/2014 08:26

Have you looked here? Everything comes in about 100765 colours.

But, TBH, experience tells me you'll probably end up making it yourself (after a long search), so why not just crack on with shopping for patterns and fabric now? Would cut out a lot of stress and fuss in the end.

KatyMac · 17/01/2014 22:07

MrsLettuce you know me too well

But I have been forbidden as I've been a bit poorly & I have to chill a bit - so I'm stressing somewhat

That dress she likes would look fab on her. ( mind you , having seen her photo, she would look fab in a bin bag duct taped on ! )
Get it but threaten her with the malevolent swan if she changes her mind !

KatyMac · 18/01/2014 08:30
Grin

she actually has many suitable dresses - but she has worn them

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/01/2014 08:36

BTW this is the latest incarnation of the swan

Ah the swan lives on. Grin
Arf at can't wear same dress twice !
It's a sign of maturity when you work out cost per wear !

MrsLettuce · 18/01/2014 09:20

Heehee Wink How about this this in one of the greens?

KatyMac · 18/01/2014 09:25

I like this one & this one

DD is in London so I can't ask her

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 18/01/2014 09:27

That first one is lovely!

KatyMac · 18/01/2014 09:27

& both are a little more modest than her choices
