If I describe a type of ring to you...

Could you help me to name it and source one?

An old friend had a ring I loved, and now I want to buy one. It was silver (in colour, may have been white gold etc) and had a diamond set into it so that the top of the gemstone was flush with the ring. Very modern and 'clean' looking.

I don't know if I want one diamond or a row, or even if they have to be real diamonds.

This is to wear on the middle finger of my left hand. I don't have and never will have an engagement ring, and this will be the only 'gemstone' jewellery I'll ever have as I usually prefer chunky silver.

it's to wear every day and above all it must be comfortable and feel smooth. Must be silver coloured and shiny, not matt.

A few hundred quid max? I have no idea how much it might cost.

Sorry, I mean name that particular type of setting, where the stone is flush with the band of the ring. Thanks so much, jewellery bods.

It's usually called Swiss set. You mean like this?

Hot Diamonds have diamonds set in silver.

Aquelven, I think your pic is of one from QVC? Diamonique in sterling silver with platinum cladding. I can't believe the price - twenty quid??

Let's all get one. Or two :)

Bacon, I don't think that link works, but would love to see Cartiers offerings.

[http://www.albarose.com/products/Wedding-Rings_5/Diamond-Set_25 Alba Rose]are fantastic, find a ring you like and customise which metal, width, number of stones etc. Palladium is lovely metal- doesn't need rhodium plating the way white gold does and is half the price of platinum.

DavenotChas · 15/01/2014 15:16

Ooops Alba Rose Blush

I had to have the stones from my engagement ring reset and I had them done in that kind of setting. I asked my local jeweller and he had one made up for me to fit my stones (3, 2 small with 1 bigger in the middle). The ring is 9ct yellow gold and to have it made up cost me £250. I would ask a local jeweller if he could give you a quote for a ring to be made for you.

My engagement ring is like that. DH drew a picture of what he wanted and the jeweller made it for him.
