Cracked and dry feet

Mine are horrendous. I never really noticed before I had DS but now that he is a toddler and I'm getting enough sleep to bother dressing nicely again, I'm shredding all my tights on my scaly heels!

Pedicures are expensive and they never take nearly enough dead skin off anyway. I need to do something more regularly. What can I do? Pumice stone and try to take longer showers, or do those micropedi skin-shaving things actually work?

Mine were really bad to so I went to the chiropodist who made them all baby soft. But assuming you don't want to spend the cash, she advised me to use a foot file made of emery board NOT metal, and to use loads of cream for cracked heels (pick any, but they must have urea in them) every day. Absolutely slather it on before bed, put cotton socks on and keep them all all night. Your love life may suffer but your heels will improve fast. Oh, and don't try to file it all off in one go or you'll be sore. Do some every day for a bit. It's very satisfying.

I was using the Soap and Glory foot file and the effects were amazing ... at first. But after a while my feet were getting scaly and were very dry. Now I'm not saying it was the foot files fault but Chiropodist told me to stop using it.

Now I use the Scholl Pedi Express every week and Flexitol Heel Balm everyday and my feet are lovely, smooth and soft! Still the ugliest part of my body though :-D

Flexitol cream. After 3 days they'll be better. It's wondrous stuff.

FlatFacedArmy · 10/01/2014 14:56

Thanks, I'm definitely getting that heel balm to start with!

Get these. My feet are gorgeous now! The peeling is gross but it's really worth it!

socks

There was a thread on this a while back. Someone recommended Lansinoh nipple ointment. Works a bloody treat I can tell you! Slap a load on before bed (wear socks!)

WipsGlitter · 10/01/2014 19:46

I have bought a cream in pound land! Not used it yet but claims to,have results in two days! I think it gets worse at this time of the year for some reason.

IssyWizzyWoo · 10/01/2014 20:51

I've tried all kinds of lotions, potions both cheap & expensive. The best product I've used is called Purederm Exfoliating Footmask & I got them in Primark (Penney's in Ireland) for €3.50.

They're like plastic bags you put your feet in,jcloth like material soaked in liquid, you leave them on for at least 45mins (I left them on for ages), wash feet, nothing happens but with-in a week the grotty top layer of skin had fallen off & feet were like babies bums!!

Not for the faint-hearted, some might find the skin loss abit gross Grin

Update: I bought the flexitol heel balm. Been using it for 3-4 nights of the last week. Can I just say WOW! No more shredded tights!

DH is not a fan of the socks in bed but as he is a toasty warm sort who likes to rip the covers off the bed before beginning any physical affection which may lead to him overheating, and I'm a chilly person, I'm finding it a rather useful excuse for keeping my feet warm!

I'm on my feet, all day, in clogs, no socks. Trust me, my feet take a serious beating. Dh bought me the micropedi last year = transformation! Using that a few times a week plus Vaseline on heels after showering has made a HUGE difference; soft smooth and no cracks. Mind you, I've gone through two refills now.....

LinghamStyle · 24/01/2014 10:51

Flat you need to get one of those wee electric pedi things now. I had the most satisfying 20 mins of my life trying out the Scholl Pedi Express Grin

AgathaF · 24/01/2014 11:02

Oh, the micropedi is a wondrous thing indeed, with flexitol to finish. Knocks the spots off the Soap and Glory foot file.

This changed my life! I had to stop running after the summer as the cracks on my feet were so so deep and sore and this sorted me out!! I used it every day to start with and now I just use it as maintenance....
