1950s swing style dress - sizing/ fit help please

I bought this lindy bop Serena dress but I don't think it fits right. :(

The boning is a little snug (I could fix that with going back to running) but the boning comes up very high into my under arm and is uncomfortable.

I would really like a 1950s style dress with a nice full skirt though. :)

Will I have the same problem with other lindy bop dresses coming up too high on the under arm? (Am wondering about whether to return or exchange)

Would ladyv be a better option?
Or somewhere on the high street?

Help! Confused

If the rest of the dress works maybe you could have the boning altered.

Maybe but I'd have to find a good alterations place and that might be harder than an alternative dress. Confused

Think of this lady v black lace

I got the lady v Audrey dress with a yells bunny underskirt. No boning but still the full 50s style. Excellent fit and very comfortable to wear.

I find Lady vintage better quality than Lindy bop. Have a look at collectif-they still have some dresses in the sale.

I dance with a lot of ladies in these kinds of dresses and a LOT of them go for Lindy Bop. Apparently the high cut under the arm is a boon for dancing follow: do you mean to dance in this dress or just wear it?

Brittapie · 08/01/2014 18:36

Lindy Bop win for me because they are so cheap compared to Lady V etc, plus you can get free next day delivery on Amazon. Lady V don't have much variety, but they are slightly better quality.

I find the fit varies wildly dress to dress though - I have LB dresses that hang off me and others that I can barely fasten, all size 12.

Thanks all.

I need a dress for a wedding in feb and hopefully again in June. (Budget is tight so don't want a one hit wonder)

I have a couple of dresses from vivien of holloway. They are boned, but I haven't noticed the boning coming up high at all
