Even if you genuinely have the figure for it, are there still some things you really shouldn't wear if you're over 45? If so, what?

I used to say leggings. Actually for anyone who could remember them first time round! I've come round to them as a winter alternative to tights but am not a fan otherwise. Especially not as evening wear.

cerealqueen · 04/01/2014 22:37

Dungarees, unless you are in a Cbeebies scottish drama.

Thinking this myself as a very youthful looking 45 yr old. Contemplated some distressed ripped and repaired skinny jeans the other day but decided nay so would add them to the list.

nilbyname · 04/01/2014 22:38

Pig tails, bunches, pink, fluffy jumpers, purple funky hair ala Sharon Osborne

alemci · 04/01/2014 22:39

watching too.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/01/2014 22:39

Leggings No-No isn't just over the over 45s though Blush

My DD is a trim size 6 (she's 11) and even she knows that leggings should only be worn if they are respectable, your pants don't show through, and no labels are on show. No thongs either.

500internalerror · 04/01/2014 22:40

See through blouses, especially black one with a pale bra underneath.

Thants · 04/01/2014 22:40

Nothing! Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2014 22:41

I think leggings with a dress and pumps look really good on older women.

I think mini-skirts. Even cord ones with opaque tights.

Bonsoir · 04/01/2014 22:42

The rules are the same whatever your age: only expose or emphasise those bits of you which deserve admiration!

Bonsoir · 04/01/2014 22:43

I love mini-skirts - very short ones Blush. I will be 48 this year.

cerealqueen · 04/01/2014 22:43

I still wear a denim mini with thick leggings, slouchy jumper and boots!

HoneyandRum · 04/01/2014 22:44

Purple and red streaks in funky hair is a uniform for most women over here in Germany so strike that.

There're not many 45 years that look good with hair down to their bum however.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2014 22:45

Sleeveless tops, unless your upper arms are like Michelle Obama's.
Bikinis.
Frosted eyeshadow or lipstick.
Anything strapless.

burnishedsilver · 04/01/2014 22:45

Polyester.

DrNick · 04/01/2014 22:46

i used to think mini skirt ere ok regardless of age

Now I dont

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 04/01/2014 22:46

No one should ever wear polyester.

cerealqueen · 04/01/2014 22:46

I don't reveal too much skin these days so no scoop necks, more boat / slash necks. Nobody needs to see my knees either. I often think of SJP in Sex and the City 2... for me, too much flesh on show and the clothes were wearing her, not the other way round.

DrNick · 04/01/2014 22:49

skirts that are too short just look desperate

and i have GREAT legs

purplegadget · 04/01/2014 22:49

I'm with Bonsoir on the mini skirts (only with opaque tights though) and I'll be 48 this year too.

Bar your hair in bunches and tutus, wear what the feck you like, suits your shape & makes you feel good.

I have had strangers comment (positively) on my legs. I work hard in the gym. Damned if I'm not going to wear mini skirts, leather leggings and the like. I'm 45.
