Best eyeliner pen (for flicky liner) for a novice?

theladylovescupcakes · 04/01/2014 09:36

I don't wear a lot of eye make up but having practised the flicky liner on the upper lid I'd like to give this a proper go. Can you recommend me an easy to use pen liner please? Or another method if you find it easier? Thank you.

I find the boots bottle with a brush the easiest. So basically a brush rather than a pen thing.

mummratheevertired · 04/01/2014 09:41

Ohh I need to know this. I did see a trick to put masking tape on to make the flicks but I've no time for that. My eyeliner is always so smudgy and rubbish. I think I need a pen too.

Here www.boots.com/en/No7-Stay-Precise-Liquid-Eye-Liner_1273207/

Mixed reviews but it's the only sort of thing that works for me.

ellaballoo · 04/01/2014 09:47

DD swears by a Barry M felt tip style eyeliner .

Sali Hughes often recommends the Rimmel Glam Eyes one and I have it too. Good formula, not too thick and a fine brush, the black is very black.

Try doing the flick "backwards", start at the outside edge where you want your flick to end and go back towards the middle of your eyelid, then colour in the corner from the line to outer corner of the eye (hope that makes sense!) I find that makes defining the shape / size of the flick easier.

Don't get the Urban Decay one, it's ok but the bottle is rubbish (waste a lot on the sides of the bottle).

Have you tried doing the flick with gel liner and a brush instead? I found that is actually easier than liquid liner to begin with...

OneMincePie2Many · 04/01/2014 09:52

Whoops you're actually after a liner pen...! My bad Blush

southeastastra · 04/01/2014 09:53

\link{http://www.narscosmetics.co.uk/color/eyes/~/eyeliner-stylo\nice video here for nars stylo} i use the brown which is not as severe as black for everyday and you can use underneath lashes

Chopsypie · 04/01/2014 09:54

I find the mac one easy to use, but it's not the cheapest. Avon do a good one as well

shelbytortoise · 04/01/2014 10:00

Saul Hughes does A good tutorial on YouTube for flicky eyes. I think she recommends a eye pencil then the bottled brush on top. I agree the felt type pens are easier when starting the flicky look but once you have got it the brush is a better finish, I ve got rimmel and e.l.f brush liners. E.l.f easier to apply but does not stay put aswell as rimmel.

The new loreal super liner is amazing, it is like the super finest felt tip you would get, but the colour is very dark and payoff good. You can get great detail and really play around. Would heartily recommend it, I got mine for free but will be buying a new one, although 4 months later it's still going strong!

MrsSJG · 04/01/2014 11:10

Dd1 uses the super liner as well, she loves it. I use the bourjois one and I love it

Cheesymonster · 04/01/2014 11:18

I like the maybelline masterpiece pen. You can get a very thin line. The loreal perfect slim is also good.

mummratheevertired · 04/01/2014 15:45

Just been out and bought l'oreal super liner! Better be good Wink

mummratheevertired · 04/01/2014 15:52

Great just went to use it and it is completely dry. There's no ink in it and is completely empty of a cartridge.Hmm

kerpob · 04/01/2014 18:15

Oh no. I use the Maybelline eye studio master precise liner in black and find it super easy to use. Maybe when you return the l'oreal one you could have a look at it

confuddledDOTcom · 04/01/2014 18:29

I use the No7 felt type pen. I found the best trick is to not try to do it in one go.

bluesbaby · 04/01/2014 19:55

Collection 2000 felt liner pen.

I do find using gel + brush is much slicker and easier to make perfect than pens personally.

The collection 2000 pen is such a nice dark black, and sooo fine, fine enough to do mini mini lines inbetween lashes if you just want to look like you have lots of lash volume at the roots. Also good for doing flicks. It's also less than £2. ;)

Greentoothbrush · 05/01/2014 00:45

The super liner! I've struggled for about three years before this product came out haha
I'm hoping to crack gel liner next, but need a brush that's better than the one that came with the liner I have, maybeline.

theladylovescupcakes · 06/01/2014 14:28

So many suggestions! Thanks all, will check these out, especially the videos.

YSL and Eyeko (feline flick queen Alexa Chung is the face of Eyeko) DD had both these brands pens for Xmas and is doing a comparison so I will ask her tonight.

LittleBabyPigsus · 06/01/2014 15:38

Collection 2000 - for either the felt tip kind or the liquid liner with brush, both are great and stay put. The teal felt tip one is a lovely colour.
