Petite apple - need dress to wear to a winter wedding

Has anyone seen any nice dresses online, suitable for a winter wedding?

I'm petite (5ft 1in) and carry all my weight around my middle (made worse by 2 sections!) so dresses can be difficult - nothing waist defining!. I'm fairly slim otherwise (size 10) and relatively flat chested. Will wear push up bra and support underwear to ensure boobs stick out further than tummy :-)

I've got this; it's very flattering, but I'm worried it might be too "worky" and maybe too black? Any suggestions would be great. I'm in my 30's.

How about something like this with tan heels and clutch?

tethersend · 03/01/2014 20:52

Or this with blue accessories?

would look great with long pendant and gold shoes

I have had a couple of dresses from the billie and blossom range at Dorothy Perkins which are Grecian style and floaty. I am a petite apple too although I do have big boobs.

I wore this to my Xmas party with a wide elasticated belt but you could wear without. Maybe a bit cheap though? www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/dresses-203543/billie-blossom-204693/billie-and-blossom-black-foil-dress-2382085?bi=1&ps=20

It's also in grey which you could wear with hot pink accessories.

I went to bed early and missed all the replies last night! Thank you both!

I like the look of the Satin Mango one, but worry that the material would either crease or become full of static at that price. I haven't come across Billie & Blossom before but am going to trawl through their dresses now :-) Quite a few of the suggestions are black...is black ok at a wedding??

I have a similar shape and am slightly shorter. I think your original Pied a Terre dress is perfect. It's sequined! Definitely not work-like.

Going against the grain here. I have a similar shape and all these tunic-shaped suggestions are so unflattering. At the same height as you, I find they instantly look like maternity smocks.

greeneyes1978 · 04/01/2014 22:53

I agree all tunic dresses make me look pregnant. The dress I suggested does give an illusion of a waist.

choceyes · 04/01/2014 23:05

I'm also an apple shape and 5'2 and size 8. I used to wear tunic style dresses thinking they are flattering on me but I've come to realise that a dress with a somewhat defined waist is much more flattering, as long as the waist area is not too clingy. skater style dresses work really well for me. I do sometimes wear tunic style dresses but I wear a wide waist belt with them and it instantly creates a waist and looks amazing (if I say somyself!).
Not sure this helps you though!

DizzyTinkerbell · 05/01/2014 08:34

I think I'm carrying too much weight around my middle for a defined waist at the moment...although the rest of me is a 10, my waist is no where near a 10 unfortunately.

I'm torn between sticking with my original dress, or ordering this as I think it might be a bit more "weddingy".

Love your second choice dress dizzy.

burnishedsilver · 05/01/2014 11:17

I think that the dress you've already got could be perfect if you dress it up with shoes and accessories that are definately not 'worky'.

You could order the second dress and try them both on to compare.

They are two good options.

BrianTheMole · 05/01/2014 11:37

Second dress as perfect, first one lovely too. I think tunic style dresses are awful. Very unflattering. I have a similar shape to you.

greeneyes1978 · 05/01/2014 20:28

Second dress I've lovely!

RipMacWinkle · 05/01/2014 21:46

I agree with above. I'm 5ft with all my weight round my middle. Straight tunics are just awful. You need to create the illusion of a waist

RandomMess · 05/01/2014 21:52

Strange I can't wear anything with a waist they just make me look huge Confused but I have naice legs and wear my dresses short...

My hips are very small and wear a padded bra to hide my tummy. Empire line like the 2nd choice would still be a bit iffy on me - looks fantastic though.
