Winter in the park. New coat needed!

shockedballoon · 02/01/2014 15:32

After freezing my nips off for most of last winter trying to get rid of DS's excess energy I have decided to buy a decent warm coat.

I need something toasty-warm, preferably waterproof, dark coloured and in a size12.

Budget is around £150 but could push it up to maybe 200. It'll need to flippin last though!

I'm rubbish at shopping, proper rubbish. Probably because I don't do it very often! So I wondered if any of you pros had spotted anything that might fit the bill...?

I just bought the Per Una Detachable Hood Mac with Stormwearâ„¢. I only got it today so can't vouch for how warm it is but it is fleecy lined. www.marksandspencer.com/Per-Una-Detachable-Hood-Stormwear/ (fingers crossed the link works)

AsBrightAsAJewel · 02/01/2014 16:01

Whoops cocked up one of the links, but you get the idea! I'm a Landsend coat fan! Just bought myself this in navy

PS - not sure of your height, but they do petite and there seems to be a bigger sale selection in that size.

DrNick · 02/01/2014 16:03

before I got me NF one i had this one - was too big in the end but is ace and not shimmery

shockedballoon · 02/01/2014 16:39

Couple of the lands end ones look good - the wool one is lovely but similar to what I have now, so likely to not be as warm as I'd like. The 'duvet-esque' one looks fab - and the NF one, though don't know if budget stretches quite that far. It is nice though.... Argh!

I just got a North Face, black one in the sale at Cotswold. It was down from £250 to £190.

shockedballoon · 03/01/2014 10:56

Right, so after sage advice from you lot and a bit more googling. I have just ordered a north face arctic parka for £ 194 (inc delivery) - roll on freezing trips to the park Grin

I have a North Face Arctic Parka in chocolate but was £300 reduced from £400 last year. Love it, worth every penny, so snug and cosy and waterproof. Smile

Pollywallywinkles · 03/01/2014 12:39

Where have you ordered it from shockedballoon?

I can't decide between the metropolis or the artic parka.

Inertia · 03/01/2014 13:10

Got a North Fce Arctic Parka last year, it's really worth spending the extra money on for the waterproof factor.

shockedballoon · 03/01/2014 13:11

Found it here - I went for the 'merlot' one.

Does anyone know what the sizing is like in the arctic parka?

DrNick · 03/01/2014 21:48

right I am a busty size 12

and i have the M

you need it to be a CLOSE fit or it isnt warm

ExcuseTypos · 03/01/2014 22:10

I'm usually an 8 or 10 and the 8 fits very nicely.

Pollywallywinkles · 03/01/2014 22:33

It looks like I will need an 8 then. I've ordered a couple of things recently using size guides and they have been a little on the generous side, it looks like the same may apply for this.

DrNick · 04/01/2014 14:56

Just put me lands bed one up on eBay if anyone wants a peek. It's an m. Size 14 IMO. Should have got the S

newpup · 04/01/2014 15:02

I am a busty size 12 and the Arctic parka in Medium is a good fit on me, if that helps. Smile
