Vintage style (40s/50s) jumpers?

I got a gorgeous pair of 40s style trousers at Christmas - very wide legged, high waisted, turn-ups - but have realised most of my tops are too long for them. Can anyone suggest a good source of fitted 40s or 50s style knitwear? I used to buy the real thing in vintage shops but these days they're in short supply - true vintage seems to have become 80s upwards as older stuff wears out and gets rarer. There were lots of land girl style Fairisle jumpers a few years ago but I haven't seen any lately. Don't mind plain rather than patterned but has to be natural fibres rather than acrylic (probably fine wool, cotton, cashmere is out of my budget), waist length and fitted not longer/baggy (ruling out M&S, BHS etc) and I've stopped buying Boden knitwear as the last items I bought got bobbly and shapeless very quickly. If you can point me in the right direction, style gurus of MN?

I hear what you're saying about budget, but their sale starts tomorrow.

20th century Foxy or Collectif do retro style knitwear.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 02/01/2014 18:43

Thanks Ladyglamalot. I love the style of Collectif's knitwear but all the sweaters are man made fibres, not a natural fibre in sight.

I hadn't come across 20th century foxy before, and really like some of the stuff there (thanks!) but no knitwear I can see.

Rocket originals I got a lovely red and white short sleeved jumper or Freddie's of pinewood

cerealqueen · 02/01/2014 20:36

Woolovers do cropped knitwear?

this sort of thing? There may be more on their website?

MacaYoniandCheese · 02/01/2014 20:56

I bought a few wool jumpers from Brora a few years ago that we're really reasonable.

Alternatively, could you get someone to knit one for you or perhaps ETSY might have some knitters that do that sort of thing?

Try TK Maxx. They often have nice little cardigans with lace, beading etc on them.

I recently got a beauty from primark. Man made though.

gaggiagirl · 02/01/2014 21:21

Rockit.co.uk lots of wool jumpers to be had.

mewkins · 02/01/2014 22:10

Yumi often do retro type knitwear, normally cotton.

MrsSJG · 02/01/2014 22:39

I love the sound of your trousers, do you by any chance know where they are from?

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 02/01/2014 23:49

Autumnsmum, I love both the red and cream shoulders sweater and the snowflakey red one - was yours one of those? - but the acrylic is putting me off again. It itches. Am clearly a fusspot.

Mewkins, never heard of Yumi, will investigate, thank you.
