Does anyone know if her dresses come up large or small. Am about a size 10 so am not sure whether to buy a 10 or larger (buying online in an emergency pre-wedding purchase!).

I am an 8 and so bought an american size 4 which is a good fit so I would say sizes come up just right (neither too big or small)

incy · 23/07/2006 20:21

so I would say buy a 10 if you are normally a 10(american 6)

Am a size 10 (12 on the hips ) and recently got a DVF size 10 and it's a perfect fit. HTH.

they come up a bit neat, in my experience. i'd recommend buying from ebay america as they work out about £100-ish inc postage but that does mean you get into the whole US sizing thing.
the thing about them is, if you are going for the classic wrap dress shape, if it's too small it can look a bit pinched on the arms and shoulders but if it's too big you can always wrap them a bit tighter (although you'll be showing less cleavage). so i'd err on the side of caution myself.
a dvf dress always makes you feel like a million dollars. i have one in green leopardskin, the pattern cutting is amazing, so slimming it's wonderful.
enjoy the wedding.

oh god what have i done? The wedding is on friday and it's in France so I bought two of the things (1 x small (10) and 1 x medium (12)) and I'll send which ever one doesn't fit back. Can't belive I'm doing this but as I was planning on wearing dark brown satin I've had to rethink as it is going to 39 degrees!!! eeek.

Oh BTW it's not a wrap - it's strapless so it's not a DVF classic so I'll be interested if I can fit it as expect it'd not as malleable as a wrap.

Luckily it's in the sale!!

you've done precisely the right thing, you've bought two of them. good work.
what's the dress like? does it have a name?

Pennies · 24/07/2006 08:32

here it is

That is lovely! It does actually say to get the next size up (not sure if you missed it - its in a box at the bottom of the page). You should look great in that.

aitch71 · 24/07/2006 11:26

beautiful. and versatile, which is good. you'll get loads of wear out of a dress in that shape and the pattern is timeless and striking. how will you be accessorising, modom?

Pennies · 24/07/2006 12:58

Thank you - you're right I'd missed that gem. Anyway they arrived this morning and I've had a brief try on session but need to have a proper look now whilst the LO's are asleep! Simple accessories from my own wedding day - cream shoes, cream pashmina and a neutral (big!) hat.

Oooooh big swishy skirt that spins right out when you twirl around. I suspect I might spend much of the eveining spinning around like a 10 year old if I have a few too many shandies.

ohhh! that is LOVELY!! i too have a wedding coming up and from this thread am beginning to think of a DVF dress - i looked on ebay and there are loads so may take the advice of MNers and get one off there. but i like that one too but i think i might be hard pushed to get that past DH!

micegg · 24/07/2006 16:58

Just out of interest. Are the designer dresses on ebay real? For example DVF dresses etc. I always worry about this which stops me buying labels on ebay.

aitch71 · 24/07/2006 21:04

i suppose you are always in danger of getting ripped off, but i believe that my stuff has been genuine.
i tend to buy 'new, with tags', but even then i suppose that anyone could fake that...
hmmm, i don't know what to say, really, both DH and i buy clothes on ebay and to the best of our knowledge we have only been stung once with a laughable Lacoste. the threat of bad feedback made them refund his money and GH now wears it when cleaning the bathroom. good lad.

alp · 28/07/2006 08:47

The DVF dress arrived yesterday and after some helpful advice from the seller on ebay I got the next size up and it fits perfectly. Labels and everthing in tact and the dress is silk and has that silk smell so I am pleased that I have bought the real thing - shame the wedding is in sept as i have AGES to wait before I can wear it!
