Help me accessorise this dress for a wedding

I'm about to order this 1950s style dress

The wedding is in February and dh is bestman. :)

I'm going to need something with sleeves to keep me warm. Although it's not a church ceremony so won't be too cold I hope!
I'm thinking very simple (not too high) heels - black court shoes perhaps. Which I'll need to buy too.

Budget it strictly limited unfortunately. :)

You could just wear a short black cardigan. I would also wear a chiffon scarf tied around your neck 50s style in red/black and other colours to stop it look too "coordinated" iykwim

Collectif online have lovely shrugs-they have a gorgeous black one with leopard print faux fur trim which I think would look amazing with that dress. They have a sale on too-DEC50 gets you 50% off everything but hurry as ends at midnight tonight!

Suddengeekgirl · 30/12/2013 08:56

Oh I like both of those ideas! :)

I've missed the sale though. :(

Quite like this but not 100%.

Ladyglam- that sounds lovely but I couldn't see it online. Confused

It is in the knitwear section I think?

Phase 8 had a black angora bolero in the sale

This black sequin fluffy shrug is only £10 in the New Look sale.

That looks rather nice! I've found Lindy Bop a bit hit and miss, especially with synthetics. Fingers crossed this one is good.

Do you have a petticoat? They really are very, very warm and the dress does need one, unless you're really quite tall and a good round pear shape.

Cover up wise I find crepe tricky and you need something without bulk to work with this style of dress.

satin is good, cheaper but not as nice a cut
lace

What size shoes are you after?

Suddengeekgirl · 30/12/2013 19:58

Thanks all! :)

I quite like the sequin one from new look! :) I don't own wear much jewelry so that'd probably be all my sparkle!
I'm not as keen on the satin ones - not sure why though Confused

Shoes are probably a 6.

I'm a size 8-10 top if that helps. :)

Petticoat will be ordered when I order the dress - might have to look elsewhere for that though as they were out of stock of black ones the other day.

I'm stolen my sisters collection of hats/ fascinators to see if that would work too. I can't bring myself to spend money on one! Blush

sequins with chiffon? Really?

TBH it's probably best to wait with ordering until you've seen the dress - Lindy Bop stuff is cut nicely but they often get is wrong terribly with their synthetics.

Suddengeekgirl · 31/12/2013 16:19

Mrslettuce - yes you are probably right! I definitely need to make sure the dress is just right before I buy accessories.

Dress arrived today.

I don't think it fits right. :(
It's boned in the corset and the boning comes up too high and digs in my armpit Confused

Going to try it on again after dc are asleep but think I'm back to the drawing board. I really like the 1950s style though so might exchange it....
