Clothing advice for cruising

mrsbang · 22/07/2006 22:03

We're going on a cruise soon. I understand it to be fairly informal, but would like to make some effort. Has anybody got any advice on what I should take?

Also any hints/tips for DH and three boys?

where are you going?

mrsbang · 22/07/2006 22:21

Baltic Capitals, so hopefully (hah) not too hot.

Cool, that should be good.

I would probably take a few smarter things, but I like an excuse to dress up! Other than that a selection of normal everyday clothes me thinks.

SSSandy · 22/07/2006 22:31

Hmm still thinking about this one. I doubt it will be very cool, you know. We're heading off to a Danish island (Baltic) but I saw that they have temperatures between 28-32 expected for next week with some rain (which is nearly as bad as here - 36 Berlin).

Think take bottoms that are comfy and don't crease easily. Slightly loose jersey shorts would be good if you can find them in a flattering length/cut or 3/4 pants in jersey. I like those. Then I'd take nice t-shirts and plenty of them. Something warm because it could get chilly on deck at night.

For walking around the cities, the kind of nice clothes you'd wear to lunch in town but with comfortable shoes.

How many days are you going for?

mrsbang · 23/07/2006 12:11

We're going for 12 nights.

Thanks SSSandy. Like I said we're going for 12 nights.

Will have to check out the weather, as we were expecting variable and similar to here, but given how hot it is here at the moment, I do wonder.

I desperately need to find time for a shopping trip, preferably with DH, but without the boys. Not quite sure how I'm going to work that one lol.

Thanks for your advice too Blondilocks.

Sounds like a nice cruise, where are you stopping?

For walking about in the heat, you'll want something very cool, I'd say. What do the boys like wearing? I think I'd go for shorts, t-shirts and a hat/cap of some kind.

What would you like dh to wear?

mrsbang · 25/07/2006 09:14

First stop is in Germany, then we're also stopping at St Petersburg, Tallin, Helsinky, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

DH looks fine in a suit, but I think he needs some more smart-casual wear. (he wears a uniform most of the time, so slobs out a lot at home).

Hamburg? St Petersburg is beautiful (of course), I really like Stockholm too. I'd like to see Copenhagen and Helsinki. Sounds like a really nice trip.

Is there a nice shop for quality casual wear you could drag dh off to on Saturday? I like Tommy Hilfiger but I don't know if you have those in the UK. How about 3 nice pairs of trousers and some polo shirts? Maybe a yachting shop or something like Paul & Shark?

mrsbang · 25/07/2006 20:29

The German port is Warnemunde, with the option of a trip into Berlin.

Am trying to manufacture some time off on Friday, so shopping's on the agenda.

I'm going shopping tomorrow...any further advice??
