Longish, thickish hair - updo needed that is genuinely easy and possible to do without help

Until a few months ago I was happily pulling my hair into a sort of pony tail, twirling it round and popping a big springy clip over to contain it. Took less than a minute - was brilliant.

But now its too long and thick and keeps escaping from the clip, or the clip flops with the weight.

Apart from buying an even more substantial clip, how can I do an updo (not for evening or anything special) that is simple, quick and possible to do unaided and without eyes in the back of my head Hmm

I can do a big bun at the back of my head with donuts quickly and easily. Slightly messy looks better.

Donut! I'm a total convert

I too am a donut fan, but I also do this one sometimes

put hair into high pony tail and then half pull the tail through, so you have a loop.
take the 'edges' of the loop and pull them around to the underside of your pony tail, where the bit of unpulled through hair is - creating a sort of donut sans donut - and bobby pin it in place. Tweak a few stray hairs out.

Usually gives a lovely 'messy' up do.
