for a short and frumpy 41 yr old please?

I have looked on old threads for tips and found a lovely dress someone recommended from River Island - gathered at the tummy to hide sins - but out of my size.

Someone also recommended Deadlier than a Woman, gorgeous stuff but way out of my price range.

My problem areas would be easier to say I have nice hands and that's it : big bum, tum, but an hour glass. Only 5'1" and a size 16.
On top of that I have a budget of around £50.

Can anyone help please?

What do you think of this?

CeliaFate · 12/12/2013 14:55

Or this?

You could accessorise this one to glam it up a bit.

Have a look at Collectif. They are a vintage repo company but do some lovely dresses. They have dresses in their sale section at the moment for around £25 and in their normal range they have plenty for £50. I have loads of their stuff and its very flattering on lots of different shapes/sizes-have a look at their fb page for customer pics.

Lovely ideas. Thanks ladies.
The Evans one is out of stock in a 16.
I like the reg one from Very and just going through those on Collectif.
Will report back when I find the one :-)

Are you near a Sainburys? Nice Gok dresses with built-in shapewear. Quite structured, plain colours, straight skirts. With a glittery cardi and heels would look fab.

Was in Asda today and their Barbara Hulanicki (sp) range had some lovely stuff for not many ££s.

Will look for links...

Lovely, thank you.

Barbara Hulanicki red and black print dress

Sparkly cardi Might be more comfy than sexy though...

Thanks for that Collectif link Pinupgirl I've got a family wedding next year and their stuff looks lovely.

Well, I have ordered a dress from Barbara Hulanicki because I'm tightfisted watching the pennies. Thank you for the lovely links and ideas ladies. Don't tell anyone my dress is from George will you? Wink

Ooh, hope it's good. I have mine upstairs to try on later as DD was tantrumming in Asda today. I'm 5' 9" and it came just above the knee when I held it up against me, so should be a nice length on you. I often end up wearing dresses as tunics Grin.

Panadbois · 12/12/2013 18:08

I can't wait for an excuse to buy a lovely dress from Collectif or Deadlier than a Woman and the confidence to wear it with attitude and red lipstick

Gosh, I am a bit addicted to striking out aren't I? Blush

Maybe a bit Not at all Smile.

The confidence is the thing, isn't it. I have to work up to just trying stuff on as a bad changing room (or landing mirror) experience can do me in for days.

I'd lovely get my colours done too. Would only be the price of five George dresses Grin
